  1. Lords of the Fallen. Next Gen Blade of Darkness, or Dark Souls?

I still play through blade of darkness every year or two, probably my favorite PC game of all time. Looks like this could be decent. It's missing the dismemberment though, haha. That was a huge part of the blade of darkness experience IMHO.
  2. Dark Souls 2 for consoles is a month away. What do we know about the PC version?

I've put close to 80 hours into playing the PS3 version. Honestly, the graphics are the last thing I've paid attention to. Souls games have always been about the gameplay for me, along with the exploring the game world. I did take a look at some comparison videos, and while I agree it's a...
  3. Dark Souls 2 for consoles is a month away. What do we know about the PC version?

  4. You are not buying games on Steam, you are only renting them. DRM is evil

Pretty interesting article relating to the DRM debate. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/12/gogs-managing-director-gamer-resistance-to-drm-is-stronger-than-ever/
  5. You are not buying games on Steam, you are only renting them. DRM is evil

I agree with dud one this one. If you continue to buy games from publishers using draconian DRM, you ARE supporting DRM and just invested in your own issues if it comes down to that. Only money talks with these guys. Also, someone above said we just have to be vocal about it. I agree, but only...
  6. You are not buying games on Steam, you are only renting them. DRM is evil

Yeah exactly. The lesson here is don't buy games that require you to always be online. Only by not buying them will we send a message to the publisher that we don't support that BS. Ubisoft changed their always online policy real quick after they realized it was hurting them more that solving...
  7. The Stanley Parable

I read a review of this one last week on IGN and was planning on grabbing it. Thanks for you mini-review here, makes me want to try it out even more. I'm a big fan of the original Portal, and also Dear Esther, so i'm sure i'll like this game.
  8. Thi4f becomes plain old Thief, reboot coming in 2014

They do, but then publishers want to take that idea and make it a sequel to an older title. Cuz that stuff "sells"..
  9. Steam page shows 3 announcements coming

Yeah, I agree with this. It looks kind of cool if you wanted to play shooters from the couch, and in that regard, I think it's a step in the right direction. But for playing regular controller based games you'll likely want an Xbox or PS controller. But IDK.. it's still a step in the right...
  10. Thi4f becomes plain old Thief, reboot coming in 2014

They shouldn't have called this game Thief, IMHO.
  11. Longest time you had a new game unopened?

I've been meaning to do that for years now.. lol I remember not buying it initially due to the DRM, which I think was back when Securom limited activations was all the rage. But caved when I saw it for like $5. I remember the first one being pretty good.. maybe it's time, haha
  12. Longest time you had a new game unopened?

Sorry bout that. Haha! Yeah, I spent a ton with them too on all the game blowout sales they seemed to constantly have. Plus, I always thought it was cool to own the boxed copies instead of buying stuff off Steam or the like. After they went out of business I started buying more from Steam sales...
  13. Longest time you had a new game unopened?

Did any of you ever buy games from gogamer.com before they shut down? I still have a ton of discounted games I bought from them still sitting unopened in the boxes. Turok, NHL 07, Enclave, Beowulf, Chronicles or Riddick, Race 07, Titan Quest, Sacred Gold ed, Sacred 2, just to name a few.. haha
  14. Words cannot express....

I will never purchase another game that includes GFWL ever again. I originally ran into issues with the first Mass Effect, I never was able to figure out what was going on so I just gave up and played it on the 360. Then I forgot to check Arkham City and ran into similar issues as the OP...
  15. So Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition is officially coming to the PC.

    They waited long enough.. lol
  16. The Official Xbox One Thread

Yeah, it's obvious that MS and various publishers want to control the used market this time around. I just hope that doesn't mean draconian DRM that ties game discs to your console only, or other such nonesense, but I have a feeling it will.. Meh.. i'm fine going back to gaming on my PC for a...
  17. The Official Xbox One Thread

http://www.shacknews.com/article/79297/xbox-one-doesnt-require-always-on-connection This just reads to me like they really wanted always online but after they found out gamers didn't, they backtracked and did something pretty damn close. Suffice to say, i'll wait till they get the kinks figured...
  18. amazon sale arkham series question

You may want to check that they patched out the stutter issues with Arkham City. I got a free code from a graphics card I bought and it was unplayable for me due to the game stuttering during certain sections for what seemed like no reason at all. There's probably forum posts out there that...
  19. Aliens: Colonial Marines sold 1.31 million units, Sega reports

Yeah, it's likely sales from all platforms. My guess is this game sold well in Walmarts, Targets, etc.. Places where people just buy anything they see that catches their eye, without looking into the quality, reading reviews, etc. That buying practice goes for more than just video games too.. :/
  20. Aliens: Colonial Marines sold 1.31 million units, Sega reports

http://www.shacknews.com/article/79137/aliens-colonial-marines-sold-131-million-units-sega-reports So despite pretty much all publications giving this game negative reviews, it still sold quite well. Go figure.. It just goes to show that even a turd can sell copies as long as it has name...
  21. Watch Dog to have "gloriously graphical detail and animation"

Yeah, Uplay is bloatware at best, and that's when it's actually working correctly. Why they require it for single player games is beyond me as it adds nothing to the experience from what i've seen. But then again, this is the same publisher that required an always online internet connection to...
  22. Watch Dog to have "gloriously graphical detail and animation"

This game actually looks pretty cool. The only thing that worries me is UbSh*t being the publisher. I don't want to sign up for their shitty Uplay system and I would imagine that's going to be required to play this game. If that turns out to be the case (which is highly probable i'd say) i'll...
  23. Epic VP: Next consoles will “fully embrace” free-to-play gaming

Read the rest here: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/05/epic-vp-next-consoles-will-fully-embrace-free-to-play-gaming/ I don't know exactly how I feel about this honestly. As long as there are still decent single player games released as traditional "full games" (or as "full" as you can get...
  24. EA signs deal to license Star Wars games

Well it's kind of fitting actually. With all the blatant milking of the Star Wars franchise we've seen in recent years, microtransactions, pay2win/free2play, social/mobile throwaway"ware", is just the next logical step..
  25. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (80's cyberpunk expansion)

Yeah, that's a pretty stupid design decision, even for consoles.. But it is Ubisoft we're talking about here so not really all that surprising.
  26. Duke Nukem Forever of E3 2001 reborn in Duke Nukem 3D mod

via: http://www.shacknews.com/article/78992/duke-nukem-3d-mod-recreates-duke-nukem-forever-of-e3 Trailer: http://youtu.be/FqBJ7iX5a-o Mod DB page: http://www.moddb.com/mods/duke-nukem-forever It looks like it requires the atomic edition duke3d.grp file to run, but that's the only...
  27. DRM 'Worst Thing' In Video Game Industry

Yep, I remember it well as it messed with my copy of Windows too. I bought some Ubisoft game which contained StarForce and it basically fucked up my my machine after the install. That was the first time I became adamant about not buying aggressive DRM and posting in this forum and others in an...
  28. Splinter Cell's complexity held it back, says Ubisoft Toronto lead

I agree, especially for a title that has been around for years and holds a good amount of nostalgia for many fans. Going out and discussing how you're changing it to appeal to "bro" gamers seems stupid. I've always felt that Jade Raymond isn't the best PR person out there, constantly saying...
  29. Splinter Cell's complexity held it back, says Ubisoft Toronto lead

Humm.. maybe I just suck then. I've been playing on realistic mode (which seems odd since it still has text on the screen everywhere, but I digress..) and there were a couple parts that I couldn't see another route beside shooting dudes.. Like in the second stage I think, where you have to pick...
  30. Splinter Cell's complexity held it back, says Ubisoft Toronto lead

Yeah it does, and it appears to me that they designed certain sections of the game around that mechanic as well. There may be a way to get around it in some cases, but if there are two guys standing around and you have an insta-kill (you get it by doing a stealth kill) it seems like they just...
  31. Splinter Cell's complexity held it back, says Ubisoft Toronto lead

This is exactly how I feel. Not every game needs to be a Gears of War clone.
  32. Splinter Cell's complexity held it back, says Ubisoft Toronto lead

http://www.shacknews.com/article/78866/splinter-cells-complexity-held-it-back-says-ubisoft-toronto-lead I just started playing conviction recently after picking it up for $5 a few weeks back, and man is it dumbed down.. It almost seems like they force you into just blasting away during certain...
  33. Next-Gen Will Make 'PC Development Much More Attractive'

I agree. Just add sensitivity settings to all games and you're set, or at least the ones where it makes sense to use a KB/M. The PS3 actually had the capability of using a USB mouse and keyboard already built in, and if i'm remembering correctly, I think Unreal Tournament 3 actually made use of...
  34. Next-Gen Will Make 'PC Development Much More Attractive'

I think i'd still prefer my mouse overall, but that's definitely an interesting idea. I'm hoping this next gen there won't be such a quality gap between PC's and consoles. That can't last forever of course, but with support higher resolution TV's, "mouse-like" game support from motion controls...
  35. EA's shuttered Facebook games a cautionary tale for online-only play

This is one of the main reasons we as gamers should only support MP games that can make use of dedicated servers not controlled by the publisher. Or play MP games that also offer an offline mode. Otherwise you're simply at the their mercy and all the time you invested in your game of choice...
  36. Rise of the Triad is coming back

Nice. This looks great so far. I love the fast gameplay, which has been something that's missing from all these modern shooters as of late IMO. This might just get me back into playing online, can't wait!
  37. The Elder Scrolls Online announced

I hope that's some beta footage. No I take that back.. I hope that's some "alpha" footage, lol.
  38. Graphics are '60% of the game,' Crytek CEO says

Yeah, this is how I feel too. Maybe when you're developing a generic FPS, graphics are going to be important because you have little else to give your game substance. This definitely doesn't apply to all games (or even all FPS's). IMO, this is his justification for developing the same generic...
