"All Chemists believe global warming is real and man-made"

We've seen references to 'computer models' which claim that man-made emissions are a cause of global warming. One question: can these computer models explain the historical warming and cooling phases of the earth? If not, then we can't rely on them to explain the current warming trend.

Windows Defender vs Norton Antivirus

Thanks all. Norton does scan for spyware and adware. But it's funny with the latter. Sometimes it tells me to delete a cookie (which I do), but not often. But when I load up Windows XP (it's a dual boot PC) and run AdAware then it finds lots of cookies in the Vista user folder (which I delete).

Did someone crack my encryption?

Seeking WASD key advice

I'm still new to PC gaming. I'm enjoying some older games (fear, far cry, hitman2) but I'm still slow with the left-hand keys. Assume I've got fingers 5 (pinky) thru 2 (index) over keys A-F respectively. To go forward I move 4 up to W; to go fast I move 5 down to Shift. So far no problem...

Free PC Games

I got some slightly older games -- Far Cry and Hitman 2 -- from Direct2Drive for $10 each. I realize that's not truly 'free' but then other people have mentioned games that require you to watch ads so those aren't truly free either (personally I'd rather pay the ten bucks and skip the ads).

Fat loss - how to lose the bulge and gain the ripples

I would suggest starting with this simple regimen: -eliminate (or cut back drastically) on sweets: candy, desserts -eliminate (or cut back drastically) on fatty starches: potato chips, corn chips And do more exercise than you're doing now. I think that emcompasses 90% of the OP.

I admire both your honesty(ies). But I've already put all the boxes, manuals, CDs, etc into the attic, and feel a moral duty to never touch them again. But if my pc starts acting really quirky, then maybe I'll do the download.

This reminds me of fancy stereo music systems in the 1970s and 80s. They started building super-tweeters that could produce sounds at higher frequencies than humans could hear. This lasted for a few months; even the stereo magazines that thrized on this b.s. had to admit that it was pointless...

Terminal technology

We're accustomed to the constant improvement in technology. So PC gaming gets better every year. But I'm guessing there will come a time when it no longer needs to improve. This will happen IMO at 1920x1200 resolution (which will pretty much fill your field of vision) and 60 frames per second...

My bench press sucks - but it might be related to my physiology.

Most of the advice appears to be: Do More. And it's certainly true that 10x10 (100 reps) will probably build more muscle than 15-20 reps. But for those of us who don't want to spend half our lives lifting weights, it's better to focus on (e.g.) how best to spend five hours per week at the gym...

Stair machine -> rapid heartbeat (tachycardia)

Interestingly, I had earlier used a different machine (though not as intensively) at a different gym without problems. So the problems that developed with the second machine were either due to the design of the machine (it felt awkward) or longer workouts. I don't see any other explanation...

Finally got to the bottom of this. The Google search needed the words: webmail, OWA (or outlook web access) and "red x" The problem is caused when a server hasn't installed the latest hotfixes. Anyway, I solved this from my end by switching to Firefox (I know, I know, I should have done that...

My new pc can connect to my work email ( mailbox.url.edu\exchange , plus username and password) using IE, just like my old laptop. And I can read my email like before. But when I click Reply, it opens a small window and the message area only has a red X in a box, and I can't type into it...

I've been researching this; I now have mounts, junction points, SUBST's coming out my ears. And I'm still confused. It seems like all my software is centered on C:\users\Dan\ which is fine. But I don't want to put a zillion folders and files under there, since it will eventually fill up...
