So for the past year I have not been using a Windows password on my personal PC. Recently I decided to change that. However, it seems that right after I did that it caused Windows to take an extra 10-20 seconds to load.
Is this normal?
Well I just finished a two-page paper in Calibri, and I must admit, it looks... different. I think educationally I'll stick with TNR - looks more professional. I'll start using Calibri for personal things thought like email.
So now that Word 07 is becoming the norm, is it now acceptable to use the 11-point Calibri in the professional world, or keep using 12-point Times New Roman? For education? Work?
Thoughts?
I'd really recommend trying a hard drive first before a board; to me it really sounds like a hdd failure in some way, shape, or form. Hard drives can fail in multiple ways, and SMART is really not the best indicator of a hdd failure. You mentioned it clicked a couple times... so yea... go for...
Sounds like to me it was a shorting issue - once you tilted it back, two (somethings) made contact and caused it to power down. A loose screw or metal piece inside the notebook usually is the culprit. Sounds like as you disassembled it you got rid of whatever was causing the short.
So I know...
Most likely.
Do you have all the power cords you need going to it? I think that card requires 2 x6's (12 pins total). Also, if you have a multimeter, test for voltages and see if that's the problem.
Make sure to check all of the case connections just in case. I've had some strange errors where the HDD LED was messing up another one that was plugged in correctly, when the HDD LED connection was not.
I had a customer that claimed he used a older processor to get his system to POST. He updated the BIOS that way, then put the new processor back in. Worth a shot if you have an older LGA775 laying around.
Specifically, he used a e4500 in a board, updated the BIOS, then threw a e8400 in and it...
I had a some-what similar problem with a Dell that I had been working on. It was having all sorts of weird issues that I wasn't sure about. I talked to a local Dell technician (one of the ones they hire to do in-home service of Dell's), and he said it was in fact the IDE controller on the board...
I have heard of it before, but I am unsure of the name. Basically when I do a virus removal of a system I look to see at how many processes the computer is running, and if any of them are viruses. Is there a tool that looks at the processes of your machine and describes what each one is so you...
Hey all, trying to set up a home network. I'm fairly knowledgeable about computers in most fields, except I am a complete noob when it comes to networking.
Hardware:
Modem
20mbps connection (not really hardware but a detail worth noting)
Linksys WRT150N router Newegg Details
3 computers...
I suppose I never posted my conclusion...
Well after taking a break from this machine, I worked on a Dell with a P3 and 256mb of RAM and it was working faster then the computer with the internet problem. The guy has so many junkware programs his OS is just hosed, so it's just gonna be a...
JackMDS, I tried every one of those options and none worked. Going to install a NIC next.
/prays
Edit: WOW The NIC is not even working. I installed the drivers and installed it, reset the computer, and now it keeps reinstalling the old driver for the ethernet port on board.
I'm so...
The only box clicked in that menu is the automatically connect box.
Any other ideas?
Edit: Wow reinstalling the driver did not work either. I cannot believe this, I have played all my cards except the reinstall OS, which I do not want to do. I guess I'll try a PCI NIC to see if that works.
I have an issue with a customer's computer of mine. I can run a PING on www.google.com and a TRACERT on www.google.com (and any other site for that matter) and it worked fine, but the web page is still unable to load in a browser! He is using XP. Here is what I've tried so far:
Both IE and...
Just to get some lingo straight for future notice and if you call around to see if you can get it fixed:
Power adapter = big block thing in the middle of your power cord
DC Jack = metal piece soldered onto the motherboard
What you need done is a DC JACK repair, not a power adapter...
corkyg - the main problem now is that the computer will not boot into Windows. When you turn it on it goes to the black "Windows is loading files" screen, then starts an automatic repair recovery which fails everytime. If you restart the computer, it does this all over again. The main problem is...
Tested the USB ports today in Ubuntu, and they seem to be fine. It is for sure a Windows problem.
I am going to continue the Windows repair tomorrow after I reset her password, which she forgot (what a great computer user, eh?). Hopefully the Windows repair will fix it; she just wants Windows...
So I have this computer in the shop where a customer of mine was trying to get a digital camera to connect to it via USB. It would not work for whatever reason, and she continued to plug it in and take it out violently. She then closed her laptop and now it is having trouble booting. When you...
If squeezing the back of it used to make the problem go away, I would assume the ribbon cable connecting the monitor to the board is loose.
If you know how, take off the bezel and the top cover to see if re-seating the cable helps.
Sometimes this indicates that they purchased a bulk set from the manufacturer and are able to sell it for a lower price, while the higher price one is what they would normally sell it for. The supplier D&H does this frequently; sometimes I see the exact same product with slightly different SKU...
Can a case actually set fire if there is a large amount of dust inside of it? Let's say piles of dust just for theory. I guess it would also depend on what would be in the system, and where it was placed; for instance, some PSU's are located in the bottom of the case instead of the top.
My...
First thing you want to check is your motherboard manual to see what the constant beep usually indicates.
Aside from that, I looked up that error code and it looks to be trouble with installing Windows. It seemed with some other people having the same issue they had a bad installation disc...
