Can't play MPEG 2 files on WMP 10 and WMP 11 for XP

Hi. Recently, I've upgraded to WMP11 on my XP Desktop. However, like WMP10, I can't play my MPEG 2 files. I'm told to download some sort of codec. Would any of you guys know were I'm supposed to get this "codec"? I would greatly appreciate any assistance in this regard.

I can't believe it, I'm a Vista basher too

I don't understand why everyone claims that ME has twenty million problems or so, when I was using it on my desktop it worked perfectly fine. I would have stuck with it, but as soon as Microsoft disowned I had to make the switch to XP so that I could use a program from at least the 21st century...

Sorry I was gone, I've been quite busy. Unfortunately, I can only tell you the partition size and swap file location. The swap file is in the D Drive. C Drive is 2 GBs, and the rest is in D Drive. I don't know if I didn't convey this right, but I can't get back into Windows, nor can I boot it...

Please help!

Well, the C Drive (which is partitioned into C and D) is a Maxtor, 20 GB. The other, my E Drive, is a Seagate, 120 GB. Unfortunately, I did not write down the MemTest86 results, but I remember that they did not detect any errors. Still, I'll see if I can try doing the MemTest again tomorrow...

Please help!

Oops, forgot to mention that I ran MemTest 86 on my memory cards. Plus I booted Windows XP from a CD, so it's extremely unlike that it's the Hard Drives.
