The Potential Disruptiveness of AMD’s Open Source Deep Learning Strategy

In the domain of academic research, deep learning, autonomous driving, data science, etc, absolutely no one uses AMD gpus, because none of the software supports AMD gpus and no one is going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to develop their own implementation of tools to run on AMD gpus...

The Potential Disruptiveness of AMD’s Open Source Deep Learning Strategy

I hope AMD builds up this area and is able to compete, but right now nvidia is the only viable option for any serious research/scientific computing.

    AMD Fury X Reviews

usually AMD's follow up generation to high-end missteps are great though, 2900xt -> 4870, 6970 -> 7970 etc, so hopefully the Fury 2 or 490x or whatever will amaze

    AMD Fury X Reviews

again i feel like this launch is almost an exact replay of the 6970 launch, hyped up to be a 480 killer and AMD's all-out going for the crown card, only to have the 580 come out and it just be ~10% under nvidia's high end again.

[Various]Radeon Fury X and Radeon Fury coming

This launch seems reminiscent of the 6950/70 launch. They were hyped up to be AMD's return to the super high end only to end up a few % +/- from nvidia's counter high end. At least everytime AMD missteps they seem to come out with a rockstar of a card not long after, 2900/3870 -> 4800s, 6900s ->...

My prediction: Fiji ~$800-1000 depending on if there are cut down versions, and performance all over the place but generally >= Titan X Everything else: a bunch of angry gpu enthusiasts who created complex and intricate hierarchies of speculative hawaii/tonga derived gpus based on the well...

Is it me or the new-gen Xbox1/PS4 are underwhelming spec-wise?

For those saying that the ps4/One hardware is the same relative to current gaming hardware as the 360/ps3 were: The 360 had a sort of hybrid x1800XT/x1900 card which at the end of 2005 was going for $300. The ps4 uses basically a 7850, which is a $160 card, and the One uses a 7790 which is...

iPad: Not a dent in PC sales -NPD

I haven't touched my laptop since I got an iPad 2. I guess it's more that I knew the tablet's capabilities and strong points before I got it, and luckily it covers 90% of what I do on a PC. When they come out with coding IDEs on iOS or Android, that will increase to 99%. (Besides heavy-duty...

Samsung to demo 10.1", 2560x1600 display for tablets

I could see them (tablet makers) going to 1080p relatively soon, but 2560x1600 is just crazy (awesome). I would be surprised to see this on anything in the next few years. Still, do want.

Anyone want a Cortex A9 tablet, on the dirt cheap?

I do like the Wits, I just wish they'd use a different shell by now; maybe make a larger device too. I'd be using mine daily, no doubt, if I'd taken the time to find a stable ROM and get the market working. As it is, any 3D games tend to crash on whatever firmware I've got on it.

Anyone want a Cortex A9 tablet, on the dirt cheap?

I have to say, for being generally slow and buggy, after a bit of work the 3 Chinese tablets I've had (Eken M001, Wits A81E, Apad M1001) would have been completely usable if they only had capacitive screens. Especially the Wits. But yeah, my iPad blows them away, as I'm sure any of the Honeycomb...

Anyone want a Cortex A9 tablet, on the dirt cheap?

You can get a Dropad A8 for ~$180 now, which is basically a Galaxy Tab. Single core, but still 1GHz A8, 512MB, and the SGX540 so I'd think the performance to be at least comparable if not better than that A9 based tablet. I hear they're supposed to get updated to 2.3.3 even. EDIT: Also, I'd be...

[Steam Survey] GTX460 passes up hd5850 and hd5870

The 460 (460SE, 460 768MB, 460 1GB) are ~$120-180 cards whereas the 5850/70 are still ~$180-250. Of course cheaper things are going to sell faster. That's not to say the 460 isn't a great card at a great price, but they aren't competing in the same segment.

what of the "superduper" chip joining multiple GPU's?

The technology is promising, though. On a few games it shows near native CF/SLI scaling, and I'm pretty sure they're pushing out improvements every now and then. Hopefully with time it will be at least equal to those solutions, with the flexibility of pairing different cards. I've got a 5850 and...

    AMD 6900 reviews thread (UPDATED)

    5770 CF or 6850?

I'm looking to upgrade my 4870 1GB, and I've narrowed it down to these choices, I was wondering the forum's opinion on it. I've got a crossfire motherboard, PII 955, and 12GB DDR3 1333. 2 5770s will cost about $230, and the 6850s go for $180. I know the 5770CF will perform better, but enough to...

AMD Radeon 6970/6950 Retail Pictured, released Dec 13-17, $500/$375 pricing

Yeah, I see I underestimated how close the 5870 and 580 were. However, that means the 6970 might be barely faster than a 5870 and that sucks.

AMD Radeon 6970/6950 Retail Pictured, released Dec 13-17, $500/$375 pricing

I had the impression that the 580 was more 40-50% faster than the 5870, and about 5-10% slower than the 5970, which would place the 6970 about 15-20% slower than a 5970. The 4870X2 was noticeably faster than the 5870 on release as well.

The 3870->4870 was over 100% though. I guess this launch does seem closer to the 48->58 if most current benches are in any way true.

The 6970 runs at 880 core, 1536sp's, 250watt TDP, launch date is the 14th in US

Sweet, looks like it will automatically adjust clockspeed within a set power limit, kind of like the turbo on CPUs (I think?).

It looks like the jump from 5870 -> 6970 will be greater than 4870 -> 5870, but not quite at the 3870 -> 4870 level. Really, we got spoiled with that one.

Now that is interesting. I wonder if the hydra chip will be integrated into more cards. If the price were lower, I'd consider getting one to crossfire with my 4870.

Radeon HD 6970 is 10 - 20% faster than GTX 480....FUDZILLA says :AMD claims

I would like to think the performance will exceed our expectations, and AMD is pricing the 69XX lower in an effort to gain even more desktop marketshare. I would like to think this, however I'm not optimistic as it hasn't happened since the 48XX series.

If you are going to buy GTX460, beware...

I know, I'm just pointing out the new naming scheme since the GTX200s was supposed to do away with suffixes. If Nvidia can go back on it AMD won't be far behind.

Some Low end 6000 series are renames.

I wouldn't mind at all if they released a Juniper-based 6000 series part, if they bump the clocks or tune it to use less power (no PCIe six-pin?) or something, the same way I didn't mind Nvidia's 8800GTS->9800GTX. It sucks however if they plan on just sticking a new name on the 5770, as in...

If you are going to buy GTX460, beware...

I think it's funny they're reintroducing suffixes again, that is, if GTX 460 SE is the actual name. They should follow it with a GTX 460 Ultra, to which AMD can counter with an HD 6870 XTX.
