looks a little different, the acer has the same specs except the cpu and the hdd is a little smaller, doesnt bother me really, is it really worth a $40 extra for the lenovo? dont forget the 13% tax we have here

I am looking at the Acer at best buy in the flyer this week, 15.6" 6 cell batt 500GB HDD 6 GB ram Intel B960 HDMI for $429.99 + tax, i am contemplating this or waiting a few months for something newer, but newer will be more expensive, is this a good buy...

thanks for the responses, i am not in a rush, but i know the new stuff will be much more expensive, right now i can get a 6 gig b960 with 500gb hdd hdmi for 429.99+13% tax canadian i consider a good laptop like this under $500 a good deal

6 - cell batt on each lappy, im going with b960 i overlooked a few features, it had hdmi while the other didnt and that's a deal breaker for me... glad for the responses, thank you

He exchanged it for a coolermaster unit with 700 watts and a 52A rating, yes - overkill, but it was only $20 more then the one he already bought, so just for the future - what do you guys mean total amperage? the current is divided in parallel between the 12v rails isn't it ?

Do I just have a crappy GTX460? OC results suck

My EVGA GTX 460 1GB @ 865MHz, card originally shipped with 763MHz all stock voltage I think its weird that your OC of 830 is the same maximum on two different cards, but at the same time, they are from the same manufacturer and the same model. I think cards are binned and maybe you got two that...

why not ? Looks like one of the rams slots was bad on my mobo, switched ram sticks to opposing slots and got 4GHz 2.1V Ram 1.4V Vcore 5-5-5-18 890 MHz 445 FSB Prime95 looks good so far. who knows maybe i had a bad voltage controller on one of those ram slots... ;-( weird

I just noticed for some reason in cpu-z under SPD, i see Jedec #1 values different from Jedec #2, thats not normal is it 266MHz 4-4-4-12 400MHz 5-5-5-18

So my mushkin ram doesnt want to go over 800 MHz, unless im doing something wrong. so i am contemplating getting DDR2 1066MHz ram to take my 3.6 OC to about 4.0 or 4.2 GHZ is it worth the money for me to do this ? im hesitant so thats why im asking... I tried different voltages and timings...

yeah i understand what you mean, im torn. i might just get some ram and a heatsink and just OC the CPU thats in there now, AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 ( i think its stock @2.0 or 2.2 GHz). That should keep me busy trying to OC that old sucker

and yet somehow some of us end up with 4 GHz+ OC quad cores on SLI GTX 580's with 16 GB ram and SSD storage LOL yeah i could probly still survive on my old P4 @ 2.8 GHz..............if i was on an island LOL just kidding, no i dont really, need it, you are right, i should just sell those...

yeah basically i have a case, mobo, psu (450w) a bunch of hard drives and a vid card, i would only need fan/heatsink and ram...and DVD drive I have not tried pushing my CPU because my ram is at its limit already (cheaperrrr ram) I dont "need" Quad core, just having an itch to improve gaming...

so what's the story with video cards with HDMI? do i get sound?

For most home listening it is impossible to tell the difference if the mobo is hooked up to the receiver or the HDMI via video card, there are not enough significant losses one way or another. On the other hand the worst thing one can do is split stereo from an analogue output from the mobo...

What is the highest video card that would make sense with an E8400 CPU?

Just FYI, I game @ 16x10 res E8400 @ 3.6GHz EVGA GTX460 1GB @ 865 core / 1900 Memory no problems in any of the games i play (which is basically all shooters). Regardless of bottlenecks, what is important is this: " Will you be getting smooth gameplay on your system in the games that you like...

What to do with an old 8800GTS 512

Haha this reminds me of when i let go of my old XFX 7800GT (went into my mom's PC) then now i have a BFG 8800GTS 512 sitting around but too bad my mobo is XFIRE and not sli, cause i would have used it for physx...can that be done on an Xfire mobo ?

Bulletstorm, by People Can Fly

Good that unreal engine runs well on most machines, sucks that the shades of colors look off ( as any unreal powered game ), as far as content; it probably will get boring because its not challenging (ie, plenty of ammo and guns available to keep blasting - too easy)

^ yep, i agree with that, i also find that sometimes in close quarters, where there are lots of humans around at a station, the character moves too fast, so i end up pressing and depressing the forward button a lot, which adds to the jerkiness. Almost wish you could hold ALT + forward to walk...

;-( PERHAPS!!!! lol i never went back to that area , just kept going, but that qualifies as a bug!!! when the game lets you progress to the end without a crucial item thats NEEDED to finish the game - thats wrong, and they should give you that weapon once you get to the final boss anyways so...

Recommend me a card to pair with this E8400!

The E8400 easily goes up to 3.6GHz without any serious tweaking, get an after market cooler though... I play at 16x10 and my overclocked GTX 460 1GB is plenty for me, actually my old GTS 8800 512 was plenty for everything except crysis too. Here in Toronto the prices are a little out of wack...

I think its a great game graphically and artistically, but its definitely not coded/optimized to the max and is quite buggy... i have had the game repeatedly try to play in windowed mode, or sometimes the view of the gun and your hands disappears when going out of cloak mode and switching...
