I got it for a price very similar to a PCI-E version. As for the limited funds, I would want to build a whole new system (possibly keeping the Q6600), and I can't afford to do that right now. Neither can I justify it for the amount I use the machine. Most sources quote PCI-E 4x at 1000...

The latest official BIOS is 2.20. The modded version is 2.20A, which didn't work for me (see above). Your experience may differ of course. I've got a 1GB HD4670 AGP. I couldn't compare it to the 3850 (having never owned one), but I doubt there'd be much between the two. These aren't the...

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 + ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA + ASRock 775Dual-VSTA

Hi all. I upgraded the BIOS from 220 to 220a yesterday. All the expected options were available after flashing, and all appeared well. But the computer wouldn't boot - all I got after the BIOS and RAID screens was a flashing cursor in the top left corner of the screen. I flashed back to...

You may be able to lower the multiplier with the new BIOS, and run at 12 x 266 or something. Presumably 3.3GHz is the best your CPU will do? Probably not much benefit in doing that though - you'll see more benefit from dropping a Core2Duo in. :D

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

I can't remember the name - I didn't keep it installed when I found it wouldn't do what I wanted! I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in this thread though. I'll have a look through my downloads later for it.

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Yes, I've got that too. But it's only the same as has been available previously in software - you can lower the default multiplier, but not raise it. At least I can't! (Q6600). Nothing much else has changed that I've seen so far - still at 2.3 GHz....

Those are definitely SATAII speeds, so I wouldn't worry. Strange! My burst speed varies from around 160 to 205. Nowhere near the magical 300 though.

Various ways: 1. Check for the drive in the initial POST screen. If it shows, it's in IDE mode. It will probably say it's in UDMA Mode 6. 2. Check your IDE/ATAPI devices in Device Manager, and see what is connected. 3. Run HDTach and see if your burst speed is more than 133 MB/s (the...

It WILL work, just at 2.3GHz instead of 2.4. :D Overclocking is another matter though!

Rock solid fine at 290, no go at 291! The PLL on mine is RTM866-485. The best way to find the right one (assuming a Q6600 with no BIOS CPU set to Auto) is to query each one until you get a reading of 253 (actually 253.3 on mine). That one should do it.

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

You're doing well! Mine won't boot at 1MHz over 266, and not always at 266! As posted above, SetFSB is the way to go. From the batch file idea, I've now got shortcuts on my desktop to OC as required, return to standard, or shutdown. Works for me!

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Just gave it a try on mine, and it seems to work (at 253FSB). At least, it worked once I renamed my batch file from 'Shutdown', which resulted in a continuous SetFSB loop! :o Do you see SetFSB open and run when you start the batch file? I'm guessing that's how you verified the proper FSB...

That's a sympton of overclocking on this board unfortunately. I don't know if it's limited to the quad core, but I suspect it is. There's a reason they drop the quad core FSB down 5%! Try overclocking in Windows using SetFSB. And if you look on page 10 of this thread, you'll find how to...

Try setting your memory voltage to High. I had a problem with a system recently (on a Gigabyte MB) where the RAM voltage wasn't high enough, and the system was very unstable. Upping the voltage sorted it.

There is a separate BIOS screen for the RAID controller, which appears after the main BIOS. Press Crtl-Z (I think) to view it, and the SATA drive should be shown, together with it's mode. It isn't meant to show in the main BIOS screen once RAID is enabled. Just one thought - have you...

Enabling RAID in the BIOS essentially enables a different disk controller. You need to install using this controller (i.e. RAID enabled in BIOS, and use the floppy RAID driver during XP install). It's correct that it won't see the XP install if you turn on RAID after installing! Although...

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Set the RAID controller to RAID (as opposed to non-RAID) in the BIOS, and load the driver from the floppy when requested. Otherwise the drive will run in IDE mode (actually UDMA mode 6) although connected to the SATA port.

Got a new HDD at the weekend, and was disappointed (although not entirely suprised I supposed) that this mobo doesn't offer true SATA2 support! I guess I'd taken it as read given it's name and all... Anyway, apparently NCQ doesn't make a great deal of difference. What REALLY annoyed me is...

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

It's possible. I had an Antec go funny once - it was probably less than a year old. And because it was supposed to be a good PSU, I changed almost everything else before discovering the true problem. It's always worth considering the PSU if several strange things show themselves at once.

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

I'd be taking a look at your power supply too! A dying PSU can cause symptoms like that.

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Going forward, yes it may be. But this board is all about economical upgrades, using an existing AGP card, and maybe DDR1 RAM. 2GB is plenty for most people at the moment, including me. I must admit that I'm regretting this upgrade a little now - I expect this board will be history within...

Does your PC shut down correctly? Or do the fans keep on running? The RAM score is low because the board has such poor bandwidth. Mine scores 4.6, although I think someone in this thread claimed over 5!

I can see and adjust the CPU and PCIE frequencies without a Supervisor password. They're just there to adjust. I wonder if the flashing technique has anything to do with it, i.e. are both DOS and Windows flashes identical?
  26. S

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

I've only used a Q6600, and I've never set ANY passwords in the BIOS. So I don't think that's it. (I've got the Auto, Async, Sync options).
  27. S

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Try setting the AGP voltage to High, as someone found further up the thread. Allowed me to run at 266FSB (with Q6600). But even 1MHz over 266, and it won't boot. Doesn't switch off properly either!
  28. S

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Nope. Mine has had those options all along, through 1.50, 1.60, 1.70 and now 1.80 BIOS.
