why was "all quiet on the western front" considered one of the greatest war novels of all time?

It is more appropriate to call it one of the greatest anti-war novels of all time. It showed the German soldiers were just regular blokes, caught up in the great war same as the French, Brits, etc. Basically put a human face on "the enemy."

George Stewart's "Earth Abides" is an older book, but an excellent one on a plague that wipes out mankind. Kevin J. Anderson & Doug Beason have a book called "Ill Wind" about the end of the world caused by the removal of oil from the planet. I'll see if I can remember any more...I enjoy these...

Band of Brothers is amazing....

I really enjoyed the first 4 episodes...but I have to go back to the library to get the others. I thought Schwimmer did a great job of playing his role as his grating personality fit the part perfectly. I could share his men's misery :D Also, Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) from Office Space...

Anybody read the Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony?

Maybe I am thinking of another book...but two votes against the book on God makes me wonder. I'll have to go back and look at it again (its been years). I know there were definitely a couple boring books in the series. I used to be a big Piers fan...and read this series, part of the series...

Gandalf has no real spells!

I think Gandalf was going to put up a Bubble of Invulnerability around Minas Tirith in the last movie, but I distinctly saw him fail rolling two dice 20's. He needed two "20's" and only got a 6 and a 7. Thus, he had to do it the old fashioned way by using his staff and sword to put the smack...

COD Mulitplayer is alright, but when the hell are they going to make a CTF mod? Seems only natural you would have a cooperative team game such as CTF since the game is supposedly about squad teamwork in single player. Quake II CTF had more team-play than COD game versions... :(

Why do people not like Empire Strikes Back ?

FOTR felt like I was seeing something magical for the first time - seeing the images in my head of the books coming to life. While I did enjoy TTT immensely, it didn't have that "shock and awe" feeling that I came away with after the first one. However, since I rank them as both 5 star movies...

Poll: your choice of remote administration software

A proggy called Remotely Anywhere 3.8x is what we use. Never have a problem with latency on our LAN (about 500 PC's). Good stuff...and I was previously a fan of Radmin until this came along.

Last book I read (mostly) was Timelines by M. Crichton but the book was so predictable and boring I chucked it against the wall about 250 pages into it. Next up is Return of the King by Tolkien to gear up for the movie in Dec.!

Roger Ebert on Kill Bill

What should I do?

Well, if you get home in the early evenings you should still be able to hang with the chillins during the week. Plus, you can start doing things on Sunday instead. However, if it came down to money or free time, I'd choose time myself. Otherwise, why make the money?

Verizon chimp "Can you hear me..."

I am looking for a wave file of the chimp in the commercial when he imitates the "can you hear me now?" It would make a good Trillian sound. :D I don't have a VCR or I would make it myself LOL. Any help finding this would be appreciated. Google was no help.
