If proper crypto is done its not too big of deal where the data that holds your passwords is kept. Problems certainly arise, however, with being able to trust the means of accessing that data.. And the privacy aspect of someone possibly knowing when you have accessed or changed credentials...

You can/should use SSH to forward a local port to your remote machine, where a proxy server is setup. There are dozens of howtos with a few google searches of 'ssh tunneling' or 'ssh port forwarding'

I've been trying to configure an exchange 2000 test server I have here to get an outlook client to crash out (in any circumstances), and haven't had much luck.. Is there anything really very special outside of most 'default' options with the configuration of your server/domain/network?

Its not clear how controlled the testing you've done is... Has any machine you've tested with been a fresh install of 2k and Outlook, with and wihtout current updates? If the problem is reproducable consistantly on any outlook client (fresh install, whatever), it would suggest that the problem...

Remember that 600MB satelite image of the earth? I finally got it.

Its a shame IPv6 hasn't been put out into mainstream use just yet... if that were the case, it could just be muticasted out to however many connections at once (to a point, obviously). I'd suggest someone get an IPv6 server going. Heck, I'd look into it myself if I had more motivation than this...
