Hey guys, I recently sold the video card to a fellow Anandtech member. I had tested the video card right before I packaged it and shipped it out on Saturday (1/29/05). The video card was placed in an anti-static bag in its original packaging box from when I bought the video card. The original...
I have no idea what is wrong nor do I know how to fix it (besides formatting). I installed WinME about 4 months ago, immediately disabled System Restore. Everything worked fine, I had no problems with WinME. Now, it takes forever for my computer to boot into Windows. It once took 8 minutes!! I...
Agreed.
What are some nice programs which help lock out a Windows 2k box? Such as restricted Start Menu, no control panel, etc. Preferrably free. =D
Thanks for all the help!

Hrm. I've thought about having a workstation dedicated for floppy and printer..The only bad thing about that is there are about 5 workstations which would connect to it. Also, 2 of the workstations are in different rooms.
I know of those programs you talk about. They do work..I've tested it...
Well, thats the thing. The users will probably need to use the floppy. I have already set a BIOS password...but if you look hard enough, there are ways to get past it.

Hey. I didn't know where else to post this question since it didn't seem to fit into any other forum.
Anyways, I have a Win2k machine and I want to test how strong the passwords are. I know I can use certain programs to directly get the hashes from the registry but you have to have admin access...
I've just enabled SMTP authentication. I should have enabled it earlier but I didn't and that was my bad. The main reason I disabled it was so my little CGI scripts could use this server to relay messages from my webpage.

This bastard at:
wdcax12-143.dialup.optusnet.com.au
198.142.112.143
was using my SMTP server to send porn/crap to others!!! I got so pissed that I called his ISP in Australia and told them what was going on. They told me he has violated their Terms of Use and he will be terminated.
Thats one...
It says KYRO/KYRO II..I have the original Kyro I. Will these drivers work with it? The file names have a 4k5 (Herc 4500) in them so I'm not sure.
Anyone know?
Thanks,

Again...what OS are you running??? If you're running Win32, I recommend BIND for Win32 to setup your DNS (ie. domain name, mail exchange) records.

Yea..make sure you have the 32bit version of ServU. The 16bit version doesn't support windows shortcut "links". Just make the shortcut, add it to the access rules, and it should work.
Null
did you guys remember to add your linked directories to the File/Dir Access Rules? I have mine setup with links and it works great. I'll try to help more.

The Kyro II will run very nicely on those games you listed. On newer games like Tribes 2, it'll still run very well but it will be pushed. I have a Kyro I right now and I couldn't be happier for a budget vid card.

I personally have the Panasonic Expanium. I don't complain at all. It can play CDRWs as well as CDRs. What I love the most is it runs for ~ 12-14 hours on 2 AA bateries on MP3 mode or up to 18+ hours on normal CDs. Its never skipped on my once. I even dropped it once =( thank god it still works...
You can put "windows shortcuts" or links in the home directory. Theres another way..I forgot. RTDM (read the damn manuals) from the Serv-U site. Thats how I learned...

Hey,
A friend asked me to upgrade his old HP model 8160. It currently has a 233mhz MMX and 32mb RAM. I'm getting him 128mb and I was wondering if anyone knew the jumpers on the mobo. The HP support site says the max jumper setting is 3.5 x 66 = 233. I suppose I can use the K6-2/3+ 2x remap to...
You're refering to "IT" as the thing that was supposed to change the world or something? Probably with transportation?
"IT" was probably just a big hoax...someone prove me wrong.

Can you rephrase that? You're saying that you transferred 80gig of data from one hard drive to another with a motherboard with a 686B southbridge and got a corrupted file even without a SB Live! card?
The heatsink should be fine. Its a Slot 1 board with a Slot 1 Gorb. It has these nice clamps which should keep it secure.
Thanks for the respones.

Like the subject says...I;m going to be shipping a whole computer. The harddrive is securly in the case...Since the harddrive is the most sensitive equipment in a computer, should I put it in a seperate box? Or will it be fine in the case? Of course I'm going to be adding like 1/2 foot padding...
While booting up, a message popped up saying Standby has failed the past few times and it asked if I wanted to disable it. I accidently clicked YES. How do I re-enable it?
Thanks,

Well, for starters how about:
The inductors that look like resistors:
.15uh miniature inductor (brown and green bands)
2.2uh miniature inductor (red and red bands)
Adjustable coils:
5.5 turn slug tuned coil
IF can style RF transformer (421F122)
Shielded inductor slug tuned coil (small silver...
I didn't see any...I went twice. I doubt anyone there would know wtf a coil/inductor is. They'll just point me towards the electronics department.

Radio shack sells a bag full of them...but they are random parts with unlabelled values. Fry's doesn't have them either. I tried digi-key.com but the catalogue was confusing for me because I don't have a lot of knowledge of electronic components.
I'm trying to build RF circuits like FM...
I have the original 64mb Kyro (dubbed PowerColor Evil Kyro). Win2k drivers for it are great. I use both Win2k and WinME. There isn't a very big FPS difference between the 2 OSes. The primary games I play are UT and Quake3. I also play other games like Drakan, The Sims. FSAA was avail to me in...
The emitter is a regular LED. People have replaced it with blue LEDs. I'm not sure about the reciever. Probably just another standard LED which receives instead of emits.

Here's mine: http://www.yokoshima.net/~nullity/nulldesktop.jpg. I was bored today so I tried a dual monitor setup with my primary running on an Evil Kyro 64mb at 1024x768 and an old Creative Labs Exxtreme on 640x480. Dual monitor kicks ass...if you have an extra PCI vid card, monitor, and space...
What kind of 2 computers are you hooking up to the monitor? I have a very cheap KVM that I want to get rid of for $40 shipped. The only problem is it has shadowing/ghosting/screen distortion..whatever. Its great for servers but if you're going to use it for gaming, email, whatever, then...
