While we're on the subject, why do comp DVD players feel the need to spin up to full speed to play a DVD? Surely only 1x playback is required?

Is there any way of getting ICQ's direct connection file sending working behind Winroute's NAT? It works only for the host if I place the host computer outside NAT (obviously), but the other networked machines cannot make or recieve file connections, regardless of wether the host is NATted or...

Strange Quicktime Problem

What's the best GeForce2 MX card out there?

As topic really. I'm looking for a good value GeForce card to put in a new system, however I would like the best in terms of performance in non-overclocked situations. I had my eye on the Guillemot MX card, but I'm not sure. Any ideas? TIA Scott. Bloodnet

Motherboard swapping question

I have ordered a CUSL2 to replace my ageing SiS mobo. Unfortunately I cannot reinstall Windows98 as that would overwrite all of my saved stuff. Is there a way I can safely swap the mobo's over without buggering everything up? Wasnt there mentioned some while ago about deleting a registry key...

computer building woes

Are you connecting your monitor to the output from your AGP video card or the default VGA connector on your motherboard? Try the other VGA connector if appropriate. The motherboard will probably default to using its internal VGA monitor output.

switch on case

We also use 230V here in the UK and I can tell you from personal experience that if you are on a 230V supply and try choosing 115V, its gonna at least blow out your power supply. Mine was completely knackered and a horrible smell was coming from most of the components. Oops :D

ASUS CUV4X AGP bus

There is a speed divider for the AGP bus, if you are running the system bus at 133mhz, then a 1/2 divider would give you AGP at 66mhz and your AGP card will be happy again :D

Here in sucky England building regulations prohibit any electrical sockets at all in the bathroom. The only thing allowed is a lightbulb. How generous of them :)

power question

I did that accidentally while cleaning my machine one day, switched on = bang :( One new power supply later revealed all was once again ok, fortunately no damage. FYI, I knocked my switch from 230 to 115 (I'm in the UK). Scott
