Update I found a evga gtx980 for a great price and decided to take a gamble on used and cancelled my 1050ti order. Is there anything I should check on the gtx980 before plugging it in to my computer and then check after i power up and install drivers?

Last year I built a new z170 computer with an Intel i5-6500 (now i7-7700) 16gb of ram, ssd drive but decided to wait to buy anew video card and kept my reliable hd6850 video card. Eveyrone was right saying new video higher tech video cards were around the corner, just there was no prediction...
I went with the i5-6500 feeling I'd save the money now and down the road upgrade the processor if needed. Now if you can get a 6600/6700 or one of the K varaints for not much more go for it but to me the 6500 was priced right.
Build done, found old video card for my previous rig and used the 6850 with my new build and will wait for summer/fall video card releases. Thanks again to everyone.
I think I discovered what caused the usb 3.1 issue and how to resolve.
My Win 10 install usb is prior to some major updates for Win10 and I think on intial load of it that it didn't see the Intel USB 3.1 correctly. My solution:
Disable USB 3.1 in bios
Install windows 10

Thanks to everyone. Some more research and I see Windows 10 has built in a lot of optimizations for SSD drives since the days of Win7. I will let it go with stock config and see how it performs.

Thanks again! One thing I like about the MX4 and paste of it's type is that it supposedly won't conduct electricity and it's safe for most kinds of metals/plastics. Also that is somewhat easy to apply and cleanup is a plus.

So the metal tab on the q shield is ok to contact the usb port external housing just not go into the usb 3.1 port itself. I just wondered if this was creating an issue with ground or something if the metal exterior touched the q shield.

Ok when I first posted this message I had the following showing
usb 2.0 & usb 3.0 and if I tried, the usb 3.1 port had power but no data transfer.
I removed both ports and rebooted. After reboot I saw usb 3.1 and 3.0 but no usb 2.0 listed (all ports seem to work though). But if I removed 3.1...
I finally have my new pc built and have some questions about about the Asus Z170-Pro (non gaming) motherboard.
1) How can I tell the Intel 3.1 usb ports (type a and c) are installed? I don't see anything under device manager but 2.0 and 3.0 for USB.

I actually bought ddr4 3000 g.skill ram. As for cpu my thought was the 6500 will be a nice upgrade to my current q8400 and in couple years more processors will be out with even better price/performance ratio.
I plan to re purpose my current rig so that video card is going there but if I can find an older video card that still works for it then I may do that since I know usually new GPU tech means the previous tech goes lower in price.
If I don't have an older card would you recommend the 960 or...
I already ordered the motherboard anyways. I usually overbuy on this since I run my builds for 5+ years if possible with just upgrades to ram/cpu/video.
I don't mind OC the memory if everything is stable. I went for the mb I chose because it had the features I wanted with future expansion. I don't think the B and H series chipsets can support future sli/crossfire if I choose to go that route someday.

I started this thread after a long day and I can see I made a major omission when checking the 390x video cards for sale. I forgot to include a budget number - I am thinking 100-250 range. I can spend a bit more if the card is really that good.
