2630qm or 2720qm?

Maybe this is the wrong forum for this? I like the price on the 2630qm, but is it worth it with a 3 year self-imposed refresh window to get a 2720 instead? Is it possible to end user upgrade the cpu in a clevo laptop case? Price difference is ~$160 which I'd rather spend on other things...

recommend a matx mobo?

I've got most of the parts left over from my last pc, an e6550, 2gb ram, case & psu. I was thinking of putting together a pc for my mom, she really doesn't do much except email, a surfing and a little light photoshop, so I don't need anything too great, something cheap with decent onboard...

what motherboard for an e8400?

asus p5e-vm hdmi is a nice overclocking board, my OC is weak but I'm too much of a pussy to take it up a notch.

Q6600 or E8400..or...other?

Quad for sure. Your business is paying for it, so it's a capital asset and you're most likely amortizing the expense over 3 years. I would expect the Quad to have a useful life of at least 3 years, the 8400 probably 2 years before you get the itch for something faster or with more cores...

Got up to 3.4 stable at 1.216 after 24 hour prime session, TJmax delta is 35 or less consistently, I'm happy :)

my Xeon e3110 is idling at 42c

I don't know, I take the ambient into account because where I live it's gets hot starting in late April and doesn't let up till late October, most days at 35-40c. I'm not going to be expecting my chip to be running at lower than ambient temperatures maybe 5-7c higher given really good air...

What are the ambient temperatures like where you live? Did you make the offset adjustments for TJmax to CoreTemp/SpeedFan? If your TJmax is set to 105c (should be 95c) in CoreTemp you'll have to fiddle with the ini file to get the temperatures right, for SpeedFan it's in the advanced tab...

X3350 / Q9450 Overclocking Thread

Mine hits 67c on prime95 @ 3.2ghz (no issues), but I have a really shitty CPU cooler, zalman 9700 is on its way. What I've read suggests that as long as you're under 70c you're OK.

I broke down and got an x3350, I just installed it and viola 400mhz without breaking a sweat. Now that I've got it at a sweet 3.2ghz which Core temps should I be aiming for? CoreTemp is showing 77c under load from prime 95, but aisuite shows 67 - 68c. I'm using a thermaltake i1 right now...

Weird, psu is rated at 585w, its not a name brand one though so I dunno. I didn't need to plug in the pci-e card at all, it just fires up and runs without 6-pin power. I have no trouble with video in any app. Maybe a better psu will solve it. I'm borrowing 2 * 1gb modules from a friend...

runawayprisoner - did you need to connect the molex -> 6 pin pci-e power cable to your 9800gtx? I don't have it plugged in to my 9600gt and I wonder if that could be causing the the overclock issues? My system wouldn't boot with the 6-pin adapter plugged in.

Getting new parts in Wednesday - what do I need to know?

i just built a e3110 system, no problems except i can't overclock much beyond 385mhz FSB. I'm blaminig it on my crappy case and heat, you should be ok with a vanilla build though. Good luck!

yep tried that too, no difference. i have disabled everything on the board perhepheral wise and still the same thing, it's baffling. i had already had 800mhz selected for ram manually, so i was factoring that in. could it be the board is bad? i suppose i can try for an rma.

i tried vcore up to 1.225, i think that is the outer limit for e3110. it runs at 9x385 at 1.1925. i have not touched nb, pll. ram runs default at 800Mhz, it is not overclocked. i read a lot about this board before buying it, and have had no luck getting past 385 with any chip. i have seen...

help, I'm stuck on my overclock! I have gotten this cpu up to 385*9 (3.465ghz). Spread spectrum is disabled, onboard video is disabled, ram runs at 400mhz without issue. Taking it up to 400*9 will not post. 385*9 is stable, temps run from 19C to 39C. Any help or tips appreciated...

interesting, the strange thing is i have the onboard video disabled (at least i think it's disabled). i wonder if there is some way around this, i do have a 9600gt plugged into the agp slot. good to know though, thanks.

i feel like crytek should focus on making engines, there was a lot of potential and it was kind of disappointing to see it mostly unrealized. in my mind it's worse to play a mediocre game with a lot of unrealized potential (crysis) than a bad one that succeeds at what it's trying to do...

picture quality is great, i don't know compared to ATI as my experience with ATI is limited to xbox 360. i will say i sold my 360 because i found the picture to be lacking in some respects, colors looked wrong and textures were crappy. 9600gt plays video perfectly well for me with bd-roms...

not a real significant one, i think you'll have to look into sli & two 8800gts if you want to come close to playable high quality @ 1900x1200 (or look into a 9800gx2). I personally think that this would be a waste of money though. nvidia g200 and ati r700 are literally just around the corner...
