These are my thoughts. My PSU is only 370W, but it's rather nice so I should be able to sell it if need be. I'd get a new PSU + Fermi if I could get a Fermi for less than a 5670, but still, a 5670 will at least run on my current PSU.

I would really love it if Fermi cards had a sudden giant price drop. I suppose it's possible seeing as supposedly the factories making Fermi chips are refusing to make any more until nVidia sells more cards. I'd get a Fermi if it dropped to around/below $100 soon (although that's very unlikely).

bigger problem

Do you have another computer/know anybody that has another computer you can plug your 4890 into? 700W should be sufficient for a 4890 but there's only one way to tell.

XP won't detect 1TB hard drive, Win7 recognizes it fine?

I'm positive it's SP3. Got the ISO from MSDN. My two internal hard drives are a 640GB SATA and a 750GB SATA so I'm sure it has no problem seeing partitions of that size, i'm just not sure why it thinks the 1TB NTFS partition of my external is unformatted. It doesn't ask me to initialize it when...

Computer Intermittently Refuses to Post

This happened to me on last computer I built (ECS A780GM-A Ultra). Updating to the latest BIOS fixed the problem for me. I'd suggest checking for a BIOS update, and if you already have the latest version (or that doesn't fix it), doing what sandorski said.

I have tried a USB external DVD drive as well to no avail. I've also tried it with three different flash drives. I may have forgotten to say this in the OP, but I've successfully installed Windows 7 plenty of times before both with USB DVD drives and USB flash drives.

what can i do with a spare Athlon 2500+ box?

i'd definitely think about donating it to someone, but it's rather finicky. i'd have to fix it up more before that. if i was to make it a server for a short time though, wouldn't it be easier/less resource consuming to do something like run rtorrent and ssh to the server?

i will do that. before i put WPA on the Airport, I checked to see if you could get WPA to work with the WG121...my findings were that the netgear utility did not support it, but many could get WPA to work by not using the netgear utility.

I'm sure. The Netgear Utility did not even support WPA, so I uninstalled it and have been using the Netgear driver with the Windows wireless utility. Is it possible that the driver is complicating the process? The last version of the WG121 driver came out in 2003.

Q6600 stock HSF worth $15?

i say always OEM - you don't really need the other stuff in the retail package, the cooler is not that great...even if you're not planning on overclocking, a really nice cooler and the OEM chip wouldn't cost you more than $20 at most over the retail price.
