X3350 / Q9450 Overclocking Thread

I tried about seven or eight variations of this, and I can't get anything to work. I was thinking of getting an E8400 just to see if the motherboard or processor is holding me back.

q9450, is this CPU working like it should ?

The Q9450 uses speedstep technology. When the processor isn't being used the multiplier drops to 6x and the speed falls to 2Ghz. This saves power and when the processor begins to be loaded it will automatically shoot back up to its full speed. Other than that everything looks good.

how do you clean paste off a CPU

I use 97% rubbing alcohol and a coffee filter. That gets the job done.

Q9450 Performance Difference at Various Speeds

I decided to lap my heatsink a week ago, and I believe I did a decent job. It isn't perfect, but it should be better than the slight bulge that was in the middle of the TRUE. I'm assuming the last two sensors are off, so I am just going really by the first two temps. I forgot to mention...

Q9450 Performance Difference at Various Speeds

I am using a lapped Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with a Scythe S-Flex Fan in an Antec 900 case. I was running blend in prime 95. Temps under load when I was looking at core temp showed around 58-62C. I'll re-check my vdroop, but I remember it being something like 0.04v EDIT: Currently...

Q9450 Performance Difference at Various Speeds

My RAM is on a 2.0 divider. It passed 13 rounds of memtest at 5 5 5 15 at DDR2 1000, so I assume it should be good until I hit those speeds. I will try your suggestions. EDIT: Tried 401 FSB +.2 FSB +.2 MCH 1.350vcore +.3 DDR2 Fails Prime 95 :P

I have a Q9450 paired up with a Gigabyte P35-DS3L v2.0 board running the F8f BIOS. For one reason or another (I've spend over a month trying to find the problem), I can't go over 380FSB. With 380, I can run the board on all normal settings @ 1.275vcore. This gives me a 3.040Ghz speed, close...

I ordered my e7200 from Newegg!

This looks like it may be that "value cpu" that will offer ridiculous performance when overclocked, yet still cost less than $140.

One more question, and maybe someone could test this out for everyone else. What is the difference in performance between a stock Q9450 and the following (OC'ed to 3.2, 3.4, and 3.6)? I'm not sure if it is worth pumping a ton of extra voltage into my cpu just to get a 1-2% performance increase.

Just curious, what temps are people seeing across the cores? I feel that mine are a bit high at around 61 61 61 58 load with a TRUE and Scythe S-Flex at 1.26v

Unfortunately it turned out that my motherboard doesn't like certain DDR2-1066 sticks, so I decided to order a set of mushkin DDR2-800 sticks to make sure it isn't a problem with the motherboard. I can only stare at my Q9450 and the TRUE attached to it :(

Question, how are you guys applying the thermal paste onto the processor? Are you following directions like the ones Arctic Cooling puts out, which is a straight line across the processor, or are you doing something different like covering the surface of the heat spreader instead. My TRUE...

I'm glad that these Q9450's can easily push 3Ghz and many users are approaching (or passing) 3.5 Ghz. I've been planning to get a completely new system, but the infinite delay of E8400's and Q9450's has kept me waiting. (My AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ @ 2.3 is starting to get a bit long in the tooth)...
