ASUS M3A78-EM or GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H

Interested to hear your results, nolonemo. I've been using an M3A78-EM for about three months now in my HTPC and it has been flawless. The one thing I haven't tried is blu-ray playback as I don't have a blu-ray drive, but what I've read about 780G tells me it should be able to handle playback...

You can disable the onboard video by installing a video card. Since your add-in card is an ATI one you may also have to go into the BIOS and disable surroundview.

UPS dropped mine off at work today. Nice looking board. I probably won't be doing anything with it until tomorrow or Friday, though. Have an Athlon X2 5400+ black edition here along with a Sapphire Toxic 4850 and I'm very much looking forward to putting it all together.

Indeed. That also goes for boards with component outputs or displayport - you're limited to one analog and one digital video output simultaneously; no combination of two analog or two digital will work.

Newegg is wrong. I know it seems like a foreign concept to a lot of people but it does happen sometimes. The M3A78-T, a motherboard with a similar name but using the 790GX chipset, does have onboard video. Perhaps someone at Newegg copied the listing to input details for this new motherboard...

Yes, the ISO files on their website are Live CDs, I didn't have to do anything other than download and burn. You boot right to the Ubuntu desktop with it and then install from there. Presumably you can burn the CD-sized image to a DVD though I've never actually bothered to try that myself...

I just went to support.asus.com, the download section, searched for "m3a" and selected M3A78-EM from the list. There's a description under every driver posted. There are sound and networking drivers for XP and Vista, 32-bit and 64-bit for both. I can verify that an Ubuntu Hardy 64-bit LiveCD...

Yeah, it's a little silly I agree, though the further it is pushed back the less time there will be between it and 45nm Phenoms. :) I'm wondering if they'll do a wifi version like they did with the M3A32-MVP Deluxe, that would be great.

As Sylvanas said, the drivers are included in the Catalyst package. It's the same package for pretty much all of the chipsets going back to RS480, at least, as far as I am aware. I don't understand what's so difficult about that.
