so how does one look at a system and say yes, it's the cpu that's slowing you down, or the ram or the video-card or the hard drive?
I could easily see the video card, if you lower graphics options if the speed increases then it's the video card but it's less easy for me to come...
Granted but it's for online gaming usually and we can try to assume the network isn't a bottleneck.
I'm more concerned with identifying cpu/ram/harddisk/video card issues and which is the biggest slowdown in a system. Are the general purpose benchmark programs good for this?
I've always wondered if there was some program out there that you could run and tell it the type of program you want to use and have it gauge your system and report where the bottlenecks on performance are.
Does something like this exist?
I was wondering if anyone heard of any incoming Virtualization software that allowed for Guest OS' to use VT-d so we can finally play our games without needing Windows as a HOST os.
What i'm looking for is the ability to play 3d games on a virtualized os.

Ok, I'm off to a better start now. Since reinstalling Vista64 I haven't had any bluescreens. I have to assume the XP Drivers for my video card were causing the issues.
Next on the agenda, take the cpu heatsink off clean it and reset it with maybe a little less thermal paste. :) Then its all...

That's my CPU right now. I wonder if there's a reason Core #2 is so much hotter. This is without stress testing right now.

I know the ram is rated for 2.1 so I bumped it up to 2.1 first. It didn't make the slightest difference. I suspect the video card at the moment but I'm going to rule out the memory first.
If I just run memtest at default is it ok?
