Yes it will. I have mine with a sunbeam core contact and a 4870. Its a close fit and you'll want to plan things ahead a little, but it works.

You can get the Sumbeam Core Contact for 35 + shipping at xoxide.com. It has a very smooth base compared to the s1283 and it comes with a mounting system that works. It also comes with a fan controller and tuniq thermal grease. Its an equally good deal for around 42 shipped.
I have a pcie x800xl as well and it works fine for my 1080p lcd with dvi or vga. I have not tried hdmi.
Does this card have the h264 acceleration of its big brothers?
