You might be able to run the .vobs though autogk or handbrake to an .avi first, and then run that through windows movie maker to convert it to a .wmv, if you really need it in .wmv format.
You should be fine doing the upgrade with the vista drivers installed. My friend went this route, and while he did have to update the x-fi drivers to the win7 beta version to get everything to work right post-upgrade, it didn't prevent him from actually doing the upgrade.

With some older games you might need to mess with the alchemy software to enable surround sound, but with the latest drivers I haven't had any crashes or anything. With Vista32 or 64.
