If I'm Not A Gamer, Why Should I....

Spend the bucks you save on a nice monitor. For net surfers, this seems to have the greatest impact, hard drive speed notwithstanding.

IE5.5 Locks up

cant remove program from win98

the program title still appears in the add/remove programs list. I am unable to uninstall it after repeatedly running the remove program routine. How can I best edit the registry to remove this turd?

May be moving to new apt. 15000ft from phone CO... what DSL speed can I expect???

probly 144k idsl - if your lucky you may be able to see a lower speed dsl. d/l speed near 15kbps to 30. I'm at 13500 and on idsl.

There was an ERROR reading Root Directery Beacuase there are too many root Directerys

### Need adivce FAST! ### I got a Xpert 2000 AGP 32MB...

I been using the Xpert 128 for near two years now. Fine card. ATI does 32bit like noone else. Even two years ago their 32bit was great. I play 3d games even today with no probs and the DVD is built in, best in the industry. The Xpert2000 uses the Rage128 chip too except with 32mb on board...

To partition or NOT to partion, that's my question..

My real world observation regarding partitioning is that the extra drive letters tend to confuse people. Furthermore, especially on a crowded drive, the dynamic resizing of the swap file can quickly fragment the drive's contents. IMHO, simpler is better and a static swap file on another...

If your not worried about lag and latency (read as online gaming), just about any old modem will do.

A newbie and a network..... That spells trouble!!

I second the router. You don't have to run both boxes to have either one on the net. All at no extra cost to your ISP.

Stupid question, but is a RJ-45 jack supposed to work as a telephone jack?

I installed phones/net out at our company using RJ45's throughout. The two systems are not wired together but are installed in each wall plate with a green plug (net) and a white plug (phone) plus a yellow plug for fax/modem pool. Now the phones only need a single pair cause it's a pbx system...

Best Joystick for least price?

I like the logitech sticks. I fly Warbirds and use an Interceptor, (3hats and a bazillion programmable buttons) with rudder pedals. Perhaps you don't need all this, most any of their 'digital' sticks are reliable and cheap. (<40$)

Do you think it worth to upgrade to Geforce2 MX from TNT2 ??

Check out Sharky Extreme's article, at Higher resolutions - the MX is barely better than a TnT2. Perhaps when game mfr's optimize their games for FSAA and other features more beneficial to the MX, then will the TNT2 not be a viable alternative. 800x600 or lower, the MX is fast as all git out.

My new rig is a DOG!

VA6 should be able to achieve a memory throughput of nearly 85% that of a BX board (and that with PC133 memory). PC100 memory will only run 60% of a bx board w/pc100. The secret to this board is in the bios - memory setup Using SSiSandra, tweak the bios settings till you get a good comparison...
