    Anyone lived in Hong Kong?

Lots of food, shopping, typhoon season at the moment, so it's really muggy. Most people speak English fine; signs, menus and most announcements are bilingual, so you won't really have any problems getting around or communicating. Speaking of getting around, HK has one of the best public...

Desktop freezes, i get repeating beat from PC speakers

Does your system try to go into some sort of standby mode when you are away from your computer? It might be that one of your drivers doesn't want to co-operate when it goes into low power mode.... particularly Creative's drivers for your Audigy.

Is this a foolish idea? Want to buy Logitech Z-5500..

I'm running the Z5500D off an ASUS P5E-VM HDMI's onboard Realtek audio, and it's quite good. I'm not entirely satisfied though, so a Xonar DX will be going in soon.

RAM question regarding Asus M2A-VM mobo

There's nothing technically stopping you from using DDR2 800 RAM, but what speed the RAM runs at is a function of the memory controller on your processor. You'll have to see if your BIOS will allow you to set the RAM at that speed.

    ICH9R hot-swapping

AHCI is a little bit fiddly to get working in Windows XP. Generally you need to get the Intel Storage Matrix/AHCI drivers installed at the start of your WinXP installation using the driver disk/F6 method. Once you have that done, you simply need to have the Storage Manager drivers installed...

Anybody put together a system using the Silverstone LC19?

I had assumed power wouldn't be too much of an issue. Perhaps I can go down to an E4400. As you can see from our E4300 article, total system power (which includes a GeForce 8800GTX) is around 171 watts under load. As I'll be using onboard video (looking at the ASUS P5K-VM), my power...

Anybody put together a system using the Silverstone LC19?

Ideally I'd like to put together a reasonably powerful HTPC with a C2D 6550 using the Silverstone LC19, but its extremely low height makes it difficult to get a heatsink in. Anyone have any experiences with this case?

    ***OFFICIAL*** TRANSFORMERS MOVIE THREAD

If you watch carefully, when Bumblebee touches the Allspark Cube and it starts to shrink, there's a spark that jumps to Bumblebee's throat. That's what repairs his vocal systems. There's a little more clarification in the book though.

    ***OFFICIAL*** TRANSFORMERS MOVIE THREAD

Same reason why you won't ever see a VW in Transformers: VW have declared that they will not have their vehicles associated with violence in any way whatsoever, which is why Hasbro can't get the licence to use VW vehicles.

    Anyone here from Australia?

Not necessarily. For instance, we are getting the Transformers movie on 28th June, as opposed to 3rd July in the US. Depends on the movie. If they have a world-wide release date, it will be the same everywhere. Most of the state capitals are very good. As I said, I am in Melbourne, but you...

    Anyone here from Australia?

Technology is reasonable, certainly on-par with the US. You might find computer parts a little more expensive, but minimal lag time as to when things are released in the US. The mobile phone network is something that is far beyond what the US has, but broadband Internet access is largely...

    Anyone here from Australia?

Living in Melbourne at the moment. Life is good, relaxed, economy is in excellent shape, and the job market is hot. Housing is getting more expensive and we are having water shortages, but hopefully the water situation will turn around with the flip side of El Nino. People are polite...

    Audigy Vista x64/x68 Drivers Released!

These drivers fixed several things for me: - The betas would BSOD during install, and then require several reinstalls to recognise the hardware. After installation there are frequent BSODs whenever a sound starts. - Now the install works correctly for me and no more BSODs on sounds. -...

What are your copy/move transfer rates in Vista?

I was expecting closer to peak transfer rates from the drives.... certainly towards 50MB/s. The files were contiguous, average 200MB-300MB in size. A few small, a lot which were very large.

What are your copy/move transfer rates in Vista?

If you click on More Information in the copy/move dialog... Moving about 65GB of data from a Maxtor 120GB SATA disk to a Seagate 320GB SATA disk on an ASUS P4C800 (Intel SATA ICH)... I get about 35MB/s. Seems a bit slow to me. What is everyone else getting?

Who listens to Chinese music on their ipod?

Would like to understand RAM in the context of a boot.ini switch...

    1) The amount of RAM that can be addressed by the OS depends on which particular version you are using. In the case of regular 32bit WinXP Home or Pro, they can address a maximum of 4GB of RAM. Some server versions (eg Win2003 Advanced/Enterprise) can address 8GB or more. This 2GB figure is...

Never had problems with the Lotus Notes ini file. It isn't even recursive. You can just pick up the whole Notes folder, move it to another computer and keep going. Can't do that on Outlook. The main reason why most people seem to hate Lotus Notes is the fact that its interface is quite...

    *** Official ASUS M2N-E Thread ***

There seem to be some very strange problems related to RAM speed and power on this board. For those having random reboots, try setting the DDR2 speed down to 533 from 667. That seems to help, but it's not really an acceptable solution. There's also a beta 0301 and 0302 BIOS that some say...
