Any idea what the new BIOS files do? I discovered that there are 2 new BIOSes for the PNY 6800GT (rev 03 and 04, I have rev 02)? I don't have any problems right now so I'm a bit unsure if I should even try these files. (source: www.mvktech.net)

I've had no problems after I voltage modded my motherboard. The system runs just fine and no hickups/lockups anymore. The only problem is that the NB runs pretty hot and I had to install better cooling. On the other hand, it run pretty hot before too...

Exactly the same experiences as I had botepeople. I guess the card draws more juice from the AGP bus or places more stress on the chipset than other cards, thus lowering clockablity.
firstimeposter have u tried the same thing that helped me? That is lowering the FSB speed from BIOS. I used to run at 200MHz CPU 200MHz mem, and when I dropped it to 166 CPU 166 mem it worked just fine!
Running at 200MHz FSB again. I did a vold mod on my chipset and I was able to ramp up my FSB again. It runs pretty hot but better cooling helped. I'm happy again!
AGP lock on my card? What do you mean by that?
My nForce2 boards lock AGP and PCI so they don't change together with FSB. There seems to be some kind of a load factor at work, maybe the gf6 card places a heavier load on the northbridge than a gf4. Dunno. I was lucky enough to have it running...

It seems that the GT BIOSes don't have an option to set separate 3D/2D speeds. At least I tried serveral GT bioses from mkvtech.net but all except 3D frequency options are greyed out. If I take an ULTRA bios those settings become available.

No, it doesn't alter the BIOS, it only sets new clock frequencies. I will try the thingy with Powerstrip also, can't see what difference it makes compared with a BIOS flash or RivaTuner tweaking.
Yeah I've tried RivaTuner and coolbits. BTW these are softmods so they don't alter the BIOS in any way (hence the word softmod), freq. settings are read from the windows registry upon startup.
An ultra bios can be used on a GT just fine since they are 100% identical chips. I just edited lower...

Tried yesterday with my friend's 430W Antec TruePower. It works! No stuttering, no crashes, no graphical glitches anymore...damn..seems a PSU with a 20A 12V rail is a minimum requirement.
OK I've tried this:
- Modded a PNY ultra BIOS with ultra voltages to same GT stock 2D/3D speeds (350MHz) and 500MHz mem
- Moddd the ultra BIOS further to use GT voltages (less heat, the ultra voltages were pretty hot)
- Raised AGP voltage 0.1V in my motherboard's BIOS
- Threw out my SB...
Flashed to a PNY ultra BIOS. Temps got higher due to the higher 3D core temp, crashed also once already during a nvidia demo test run (garbled screen, lockup, then monitor turned itself off)

How did u guys edit your BIOSes? I tried all versions of OmniExtremeEdit and NiBiTor but the only frequency settings I can change with them are 3D frequencies. The 2D ones are greyed out :(

Argh, guess it's time to install w2k then, getting tired of this. Didn't get openGL even to function in w98, it just messed up the displays and gave horrible framerates. Works fine if you disable the second monitor, or run in clone mode.
Oh, how did you do that? To get nview to act as 2 separate cards I mean..I got the same problem as you do, in Win98SE and whatever I do the secondary display stays at 60Hz. Windows tries to change it, and even shows 85Hz or something but the real setting doesn't change. I've tried other monitors...

I ran some tests with remedy's Final Reality benchmarking program. It has an AGP speed test, and the results were strange.
First I set AGP speed to 1x using the GTS drivers. Then I tried with AGP 2x. The results were the same!
This could explain why changing resolutions...

Hey CD, try running 3dmark with all goodies (FSAA, etc.) turned on. And then once with 32-bit color and see if there is any difference.

3DMark 2000 gives @1024 resolution/16 bit only 3400, 3Dmark99MAX 3700.
FPS in the aforementioned resolution are for example in Tribes 40, quakeII:s timedemo on crusher 50fps, demo1.dm2 about 100fps...
