Upgrade from Q9650....

The automatic fan control has never worked correctly, so I keep it at 70, and even then it can touch 88c under load. Thanks for the input everybody, looks like ill just be sticking with this CPU.

Yes, I dont need the 3.6ghz. Infact ive already downclocked it to stock since my last post. My video card is a GTX 285, I could cook pizzas on it if it had enough room.....51c at idle with 70% fanspeed. Basically my PC is a hotbox, warms the entire room. If a CPU change proves to be linear...

Upgrade from Q9650....

So for the most part youre saying going from this to i5 is a waste, linear "upgrade". I love my Q9650, its been great to me for the past year and 4 months. But I was just looking for something more....efficient without losing performance.

Upgrade from Q9650....

3.6ghz, vcore is around 1.35. Stock vcore is 1.25. No clue what the wattage pull of it is, but I can imagine its close to 200W considering the stock is 95W

Upgrade from Q9650....

Currently using a q9650, I love it but I'm looking an alternative . Chip eats a ton of power and puts off mad heat since I have it oced. I was looking at the i5 760, but I've been out of the CPU game for so long......

Gigabyte UD3R or EVGA 750i/780i.....?

I actually ordered the UD3P an hour ago, along with a 2x2GB kit of Mushkin Ascent http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820146789 , so I can ditch this 4 stick kit im using right now.

Q9650 on P5Q Overclocking issue

I settled on 3.8ghz, its completely stable. 1.28vcore, 1.2NB, 1.54PLL, GTL on auto, 1:1 RAM @ 846mhz which might be a little slow, I might break it out of 1:1. My temps idle in a 23c room are 35/35/30/29, I use an Enzotech Extreme-X with a XIGMATEK XLF fan, they are only 61CFM but extremely...

Q9650 on P5Q Overclocking issue

Put the NB to 1.25, left GTL on auto, 445FSB, LLC, 1.3v vcore, FSB term at 1.25v. It booted into windows but close to everything was failing left and right, coretemp failed to init, MSNmessenger failed to init, remote admin service which is disabled failed to init, blah blah....basically it was...

Q9650 on P5Q Overclocking issue

The wildest damn thing, im experiencing the EXACT same thing. I have the P5Q Pro on the 1611 BIOS, and a Xeon X3370 (which is the same as the Q9650). Stock is fine, 3.6ghz is fine, 3.8ghz and 4ghz...no luck, random crashes of programs...Prime95 just straight crashes, dosent even BSOD or just...

Hmm, I see. Thanks for the detailed explination. I run an 8800GT and will be upgrading to an ATI 4870 later this month (or whenever they are released), and I run 1680 x 1050 on a 22". In AoC for example, I have AA at 4x and AF at 13. So judging by what you just told me, the difference in a game...

Q6600 or E8400

So, if all the eStroking is done yet, one would say the E8400 is better for gaming than the Q6600. I also didnt notice/check the Quake bench that was linked above.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yea.....ive read on a few different sites that the 45nm's have issues with the temp sensors or something. The Q6600 benches significantly higher in basically every test there is and thats at the stock 2.4, mine is at 3.0. I just wanted some input on actual people...
