Computer refuses to turn on

The other day my friends computer just refused to turn on. Pushing the power button lights up the front LED for half a second, and thats it. No beeps, no fans spinning, nothing. Can I pretty much assume its the power supply thats gone? Its one of those cheap PSU's that come with a $30 case.

Sony Ericsson K750i - Bad Reception!

If you're using Tmobile, then the 850mhz band isn't going to help you unless you're roaming. Tmobile uses 1900mhz only. Only AT&T/Cingular uses both 1900/850mhz. The phone might be defective.

My Radeon 9800 just died. Any clues what might be wrong?

Thanks for the help guys. Was just wondering if there was something specific I could look for, like a blown cap. I don't see any burn marks, so I guess a chip somewhere just decided to go. I just feel so bad throwing this guy away :(

Like I said, already tried it in another machine. It won't POST there either. What I don't understand is why it would suddenly not turn on one day. If I was gaming for 3 days straight and the card overheated and died, then I might understand. But for it to just break while the computer was...

Had this R9800 for a good 3 years now. Its always worked great. One day I turn on my PC, all fans spin and computer powers up, but no POST beep, no BIOS, just black screen. After a lot of diagnosing, I took out the video card and put in an old card I had laying around - and it boots fine...

In my experience, take the system requirements, and just throw them out the window. Then look at the recommended specs, and use them as the system requirements.

WPA Key Rotation

My wireless router is currently set for WPA encryption. There is a field that reads "key rotation", and it wants a value in seconds. However, the instructions say that to disable key rotation, enter a value of zero. The router came default with this set to zero, and thats how its been running...

whats the deal? how come i cant find a wii

They are having a shortage because they are still very in demand. Not so much demand for the PS3, though. My friend had a hell of a time trying to pick up a Wii after he tried mines. In the end he ended up camping outside the Nintendo world store, where they get new units in each morning...

Anybody using Opera?

I was decently impressed with Opera, but the quirky way it handles tabs (when you close a tab, it goes back to your previously viewed tab, and not the next one in line, with NO way to change that) keeps me from using it.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Gamespot Review

Whats wrong with MIDI? (i'm sure it doesn't actually use MIDI, more likely the systems own sequenced music). Final Fantasy games always use sequenced music, and I don't ever hear anyone complain about the lack of quality in a Final Fantasy soundtrack!

Ehh who cares what he rated it? If I ever wrote a review of Halo i'd probably give it a 4/10. More than likely i'd be hung from a tree. His biggest complaint seemed to be about some of the graphics anyway.

Uhh, the xbox had one of the shortest lifespans of any console - 2001(xbox) 2005(x360). Thats only 4 years. Even the GC had 5 years before the release of the Wii.

Any Emulator That Will Allow Apple iLife to Work on a PC?

If he doesn't game, then a Mac Mini should be fine for his needs. Its cheap enough so you don't have to build him a PC to save on funds.

How many folks are still playing Everquest 1?

Ugh, the "redone" zones look worse than the originals, and they run unnecessarily poor. It would be nice if they released a true classic server with all the original zones, content, quests, and most importantly, player limitations - but that will probably never happen.

My laptop has a x300 128mb. I run at 1440x900, 50% view distance, full texture resolutions, full detail, and I typically get between 35-60fps. Though I don't go raiding or anything, running around the crowded bank or auction areas doesn't bring my framerate below 30fps. Hell, there isn't even...

WoW will run just fine on that X1400 at high resolutions. In run WoW very smoothly at the same resolution on an x300 128mb, which is a good bit slower than an x1400.

Flash ads and CPU usage - a little over the top?

Those movies only use about 70% of my CPU. Meanwhile 4 of those little ads use up like 100%. Something just isn't right there....

Will dual core make 2d apps "feel" faster?

Radeon 9600 64mb or XPRESS 200M 128mb for a laptop?

Are you certain of this? From the specs, the 9600 seems to be at least twice the speed of the M200. Perhaps I would get more replies in the video forum?

I'm guessing that the 9600 would overall be better, but I just wanted to check. The 9600 would be coupled with an A64 3200+, while the M200 would be with a Celeron M 1.5ghz. The A64 laptop is bigger and heavier, and a tad more expensive. I don't really plan on playing any of the latest high...

Will running an A64 with PC2100 RAM slow it down much?

I have 1gb of PC2100 and i'd rather not put it to waste. Would there be much slowdown in games if I used this PC2100 over the PC3200 thats supposed to be used in an Athlon64 3000+ system? Either way, I assume it'll be much faster than the AthlonXP 1600 that it'll be replacing.

Who here misses Half-Life

I'd also have to agree. HL1 was far better than HL2, in pretty much every way that counts. But then again, its not like Half Life has *gone* anywhere. You can still just pop your CD in and play it, so why miss it?

My WOW experience

I couldn't have said it any better myself. The new trend of "instanced" dungeons pretty much glorifies everything you've mentioned - make gameplay easier for players, "protect" players from each other so that they can't bother each other, and not have to worry about creating an entire world...

quake 4 is awesome :o

The graphics were decent though a bit claustrophobic, but I hated the gameplay. It just felt so painfully generic. And even Quake2 wasn't THAT repetative. I could barely finish the game.
