    Sprint: WiMAX -> LTE ?

    I don't know where you live, but 4G tech doesn't get near DOCSIS 3.0 speeds. Sure, the theoretical limits are there, but you don't/won't get anywhere near those speeds in a real world environment. Plus, I have direct access to a Tier 3 backbone, so I have an essentially unlimited...

    Sprint: WiMAX -> LTE ?

    Analysts have been predicting Sprint's failure for 2 decades now. The fact is they aren't going anywhere. They have been around for over a century, and have always found some way to turn things profitable again. They own a large wireless structure and own significant portions of the...

    Sprint: WiMAX -> LTE ?

    Perhaps you didn't understand that post. Neither Sprint nor Clear has the money to make LTE happen. If they spend the money, then they will have to default on existing debts. As a result, Sprint's only option is to sign a contract with someone. Think of it this way: you are an...

    What carrier/phone were you using 2 years ago? What are you using now?

    Since Sprint has a roaming contract with Verizon, the above makes no sense. When you don't have Sprint coverage, you default to Verizon.

    Anyone picking up the Archos 80 G9?

    When the model with the 500GB HDD comes out... I just want to have all my content on the go. Then I would only have to worry about tethering to my Evo when I'm bored someplace and want the Internet on a larger screen. But that form factor is perfect.

    Sprint: WiMAX -> LTE ?

    Okay, this is a long post, but should adequately answer all your questions. All this really stems from large WiMAX operators such as Russian’s Yota or Japan’s KDDI switching from WiMAX to LTE networks. This essentially means that the universe of possible WiMAX-gear-buying customers...

    New SSD/HDD/RAM?

    Alright, so what do ya'll have to say on the mSATA drives? I would really like to go with a reputable retailer, because I want to be able to return the device if there is an issue. There is almost nothing to be said on this (that I have heard).

    ^That's what sparked today's discussion. :) And why is everybody down on OCZ as of late? I've been under the impression that OCZ makes some great hardware.

    New SSD/HDD/RAM?

    The $$$ is there, but it isn't there ya know? :D Means, I'd rather not spend it. I'm just hesitant to jump on a Barefoot controller. And really, my question is that would the extra RAM really be noticable, especially if I upgrade to an SSD. What about a different SSD brand/type? Would I...

    New SSD/HDD/RAM?

    Alright, got 3 laptops that I'm contemplating upgrading. Thing is that I'm not sure if I should, and I wanted to hear what you guys have to say. What's your take on the Vertex Plus? I can't seem to find any reviews besides Anand's. The prices on those are really sweet. $50 for the 60GB and...

    460 vs 560?

    Well, because I won't be able to run most games at playable rates @ 1080p, I think that a 768 will suffice. Saving $ is nice too, especially with that awesome deal you caught my attention to. :) Since I have the same computer (just with a tablet screen) and slightly upgraded CPU as one of the...

    460 vs 560?

    Performance increases with a better card, irregardless of link speed. The greater the resolution, the greater the reliance on link bandwidth. For example, playing a game at 1200x800 with a 9800 GT on a x1 or a x16 PCIe connection would perform the same (given that the other components are the...

    460 vs 560?

    @happy: Because the performance increases with a better card, irregardless of link speed. However, the diminishing returns curve is steeper. Here's some reading: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pci-express-scaling-analysis,1572-8.html...

    Is Nvidia 3d Vision really worth it, or a gimmick?

    Gimmick, you'll try it once or twice, but then you will get tired of the reduced framerate, refresh rate, and the downgrade to 1080i (dependent on the 3D tech). Then you will get dizzy/barf. Lastly, you have to wear/charge those stupid glasses.

    460 vs 560?

    @Dacalo, I think that the performance is more important than the amount of RAM, especially at lower resolutions. That chip is essentially a faulty 460. Rather than toss it out, they sell it as a different chip. Overall, a good buy; but I think the other chips are a better deal.

    460 vs 560?

    Yeah, Amazon has a conflicting description. They say 700 mhz, and then right below that they state 800 mhz overclock. Not your fault, I've noticed that on products that aren't very popular, Amazon will sometimes have conflicting descriptions because they can be written by Marketplace sellers...

    460 vs 560?

    @ Seero, this isn't actually very complicated. I have already tried it is as a proof of concept with a 9800 GT from another computer, and it worked fine. It was literally plug and play. I simply need to put my computer to sleep, plug it in, and then resume the computer. The external display was...

    460 vs 560?

    @notty You got it! That big card is for the vid card and the smaller one is to turn the psu on, because two leads have to close a circuit for power to flow. Usually this is done by the mobo, but obviously there isn't one involved here. (alternatively you can simply use a paperclip)

    460 vs 560?

    @ Firebird and mnewsham: I will not be piping the signal back into the laptop. Essentially, this setup utilizes an express card slot adapter (1x speed) and then connects that to the video card. The video card will be powered by a PSU that I have lying around (though I could use a laptop power...

    Does partitioning a drive increase performance?

    No, it really doesn't make any sense. To me, it seems like a whole waste of time and effort. My time is better spent doing other things Personally, I only reinstall Windows when I actually need to, if something isn't working right, or got corrupted. I've found that in general, a PC never...

    Go for the Antec. However, if you don't like the blue LEDs, you can simply cut the leads to the LEDs.

    New rig configuration please

    You should also take a look at the Antec 300 Illusion. The extra $7 (free shipping) would get you 3 more fans and blue LEDs. Well worth the price for the better cooling. Plus, I like the Antec LED fans. The Antec 300 is a cool-looking quality case. The Antec 300 Illusion is all that + snazzy.

    2.5" 750 gb, 7200 RPM drives?

    I have the 5400 RPM 750 GB drive by WD and I love it. It is just as fast as a 7,200 RPM drive when transferring large amounts of data due to its platter density. I'm the same boat as you. I figured that since I have 8 GB of RAM and rarely reboot, this will be sufficient. The superfetch and...

    isuppli: Will $1 per GB NAND Resuscitate Solid State Drives?

    Sequential throughput doesn't matter. The only time I move large amounts of data (when that actually matters), is when I am switching drives. Since that only happens 2 for the life of a drive, I think that I'll survive. You have to realize that a lot of R&D goes into developing new hardware...

    2.5" 750 gb, 7200 RPM drives?

    I don't notice any difference compared to a traditional 7,200 RPM HDD. Definitely not as loud as the 750 GB one. I think that those complaining of the noise earlier on got bad HDDs. The XT had a bad batch at its launch. Personally, I prefer the 750 GB drive simply because I'm a media whore, and...

    isuppli: Will $1 per GB NAND Resuscitate Solid State Drives?

    Hacp: Seriously? Now you just sound like an idiot. Sorry about a personal attack, but you just don't seem to get it. Mechanical HDDs never will and never can be as good and as fast as an SSD. Period. Because of the nature of computing, there are invariable small and random reads and writes...

    2.5" 750 gb, 7200 RPM drives?

    Yes, not nearly as fast as an SSD, but still worth the inflated price. However, if you have the option of 2 drive bays or don't need the data storage, you can have an SSD for the same price. Here is my recommendation: 1. Max Storage Space: WD 750 GB (9 mm) or WD 1 TB (12.5 mm) 2. Max Speed...
