I had an Asus P5A with an AMD K6 350 that was still running last year when I gave it and a bunch of working stuff to Goodwill--- who probably trashed it. That combined with an ati 32mb video card was great for Doom 2 era gaming. But yeah, that was nearly 8 years with win 98 and linux.
I ordered a Biostar T5 XE end of Nov and was thinking about just putting in the i530 for now.
Will the pc boot with that cpu? Or does it need a flash first? Their site lists it compatible with PCB 5.0 but I can't tell looking at the board which I have. Being a bit cautious, just didn't want to...
To think that cpu was $159 a couple times last year and now...I almost went with it, probably should have since I have an E7200. I'll to keep watching the ads.
Maybe but I planned out a <$300 upgrade around that chip.
To go for i860 would be out of my normal bang for buck building. I...
I didn't even think of the video cable, that would be a challenge. It may have just been speculation when the chips were announced and seemed it could be useful.
I read the anand article and I googled and even though places said it was going to happen, I still can't tell if the current H57/H55 boards, switch to the IGP when not in 3D mode, when a dedicated graphics card is present thereby relieving some idle power consumption--- which might be nice if...
I noticed and I'm annoyed as I wouldn't think this new i5/i3 launch would cause this price reset. They had to do it though probably on the 750 because the higher i3 is listed at $144, and no one would buy it if they could get the i750 for $150.
But the 860 is still $229--better than most...
I went with XFX for $168 from TD and Far Cry since that red MSI PCB just too ATI for me and it's replacing my 4850. Good card for 7 months but too many issues. But darn that means I can't keep looking at this stuff.
I realize that RMA should have been done--but I tend to go overboard on troubleshooting stuff before RMA--- and appreciate the advice but it isn't an option (even if I was to think I could do that) because I sawed the heatsink of the original cooler and that is now in 4 pieces. I also used...
Yep, running stock, had just a little boost in the Ati tool a while ago, now stock.
Just FYI, I consistently get "EDID out of range" error on boot in Event Log linked to ati driver.
Don't know if that means anything, I've googled it and atiforums not very helpful.
Well the artifacts---RGB speckles really--- were there but only sometimes after coming out of games not during games.
I thought it was because drivers were brand new at the time.
At first on the desktop I'd see some red speckles. I was ready to RMA, Visiontek was helpful.
Instead I went...
I purchased Visiontek 4850 when it came out and then did the Accelero S1 mod, thinking this would help temps for some minor artifact issues. Seems over time, it just gets worse, screen blanks during some games and bands of artifacts during resolution changes in game (like for cut scenes etc.)...
I'm probably running it for reasons that others are also running it. Initial reviews for Vista were bad, SP1 reactions so-so, personal few day test frustrating, too much tweaking and turning things off. And the worse outlook would be that it is short lived OS, replaced by Windows 7 in 2010...
The overclocked scores were the ones I had saved detail on. Without the overclock they test about equal in total score from what I recall. But hey the 8800 is 14 months old at the 4850 has 800 streaming processors right? It seemed fair. I do understand bias in these tests too, just wanted to...
I would be very interested in your opinion. Today I did the exact same thing you are doing and just finished benchmarking this card in XP SP2 after applying the Hotfix. I was so excited going over to BB they only had 2 left.
According to my runs of 3D mark 06 the 4850 does not seem to...
