7,2% to be exact. The performance gains in games are more like 10% per clock, which I consider to be more important as I am a gamer mostly.

Yes, AMD seems to have sealed their mouths completely and lets nothing out. I wouldn't be surprised if that is a rumour put out by AMD themselves, like they did with the 4000 series and the 480 shaders, which then suddenly became 800. I shall wait and see.

The first leaks on the 4000 Series also weren't very appealing and now see what happened. AMD has remained very tight lipped since the Phenom B2 debacle, so it's hard to announce a concrete verdict. I for one remain hopeful.

Upgrading 7800GTX

I'm pretty sure it's probably clogged up by dust, but that is nothing unusual after three years of use. I would clean all the dust out, that should be enough to get it cool again.

Yep, it saddens me to see how AMD makes a bad situation worse, I mean at least they could try more to promote their own product and show people AND enthusiasts that Phenom isn't as bad as it is often made out to be.

It's hard to draw any clear conclusions, because there aren't any reviews or tests which really occupie themselves with the Phenom. Most of them just test everything at stock without any tweaks and then conclude: Phenom=Crap.I know, at total stock settings the Phenom consistently lags behind...

You now, there is that little thing called ''clock scaling'' which makes your point moot as you can't just assume that performance scales the same way all the way to 3.4 GHz and as Sylvanas said, you have to factor in the other components of the processor then you look at a Phenom. It wouldn't...

Yes I have forgotten to mention the new TLB and second-level branchprediction the added support for unaligned-cache requests and some other stuff which I would put under 'minor'. It is definitely not trivial to put all that into a scalable Architecture, test and debug it etc. Especially QPI...

If it is, than I must have missed something. Nehalem is Yorkfield+IMC+SMT+New Cache Structure+QPI+some minor changes to the frontend. So nothing revolutionary or totally new. It will certainly be a killer chip for servers and for anything that can make use of its eight threads, like encoding...

Who's got an old AMD X2/AMD 64 rig as their main computer?

Well, I am certainly. I have been thinking about getting a new rig in the next months, but honestly my computer does everything I want him to do, which is give me playable framerates in my favorite games. My Athlon 64 X2 3800+ is still chugging away together with my (t)rusty and old GeForce 7800...

AMD has lowest employee satisfaction among tech cos

One also shouldn't forget that ANYONE can sign up there and rate anybody the way he wants. So I would take those ratings with a grain of salt. But I'm sure that the real approval rating of ol' Hector isn' too high at the moment.

Athlon X2 4850e HIGH TEMPS?!?

The Athlon X2 4850 has the G2 stepping. All G2s have borked Thermal Sensors which means that no program will show you the correct temperature. If you want to know if your temps are alright then feel the base of the heatsink under load, that should give you an idea of how warm yor processor is.
