Deleauvive, that's a total bummer that your board no longer works. I'm lucky, touch wood, that my 4coredual-sata2 works after all these years (going on 7). I guess it's true, all good things must come to an end. It's tough to find any 775 socket boards (especially those that used DDR2), so I...

You could try improving the timings on your memory and/or increase the FSB from 276 (actual) to maybe something like 280... but you'd have to test your system thoroughly to see if it's stable at that. (using memtest86+ and prime95 etc). You may have to bump up your Dram voltage from low to...

That's the reason... enabling Enhanced Halt State throttles the CPU multiplier based on the load factor on the CPU. It's enabled for energy savings. If you disable it, then the CPU will be run just at the max multiplier that the CPU is designed for.

Not much activity in this discussion, so I thought I'd just add a few words saying that my 4CoreDual-Sata2 is going on 6 years in age and continues to work very well for me. It has been very stable, reliable, and performs pretty good all things considered. Long may it continue!

Ok, that is a good power supply. I doubt your problem is due to the power supply then. Thanks for answering. If a replacement bios chip doesn't cost too much, then grab one... at this point, it's not like you have much to lose by trying.

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 + ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA + ASRock 775Dual-VSTA

meanscotsman... just a thought... what power supply are you using? Years ago, I had a flaky power supply that caused the hard drives to not always be recognized properly or they wouldn't load Windows properly (corrupted data etc). In my case, a new power supply cured that. The other thing is...

Well, the difference between a Rev 1 and a Rev 2 board is just the sound chip. The Rev 1 uses ALC888 Realtek Audio. The Rev 2 uses ALC662 Realtek Audio. You can use a free program like Speccy to find out, or if you have good eyes, look at the actual chip on the motherboard.

Yes, you must absolutely clear the CMOS... unplug your computer, then with it unplugged, push on the computer case's power button (yes there is no power going to your computer, but by clicking the power button, it will discharge the residual power in the capacitors) THEN short out the cmos...

Thanks! And it would be great if PCTreiber could revised their BIOS with a "Memory remapping" feature, so that more than 3.25GB of memory shows up when you have 4GB of RAM installed :-)

Did you clear the cmos after you flashed the board with the new bios? If you don't do that, then the board won't properly detect the 2x2 (happened to me). Also, try putting in just 1 stick, boot it up... see if it recognizes that stick ok. If ok, then, shut down the computer and then add...

I cleaned my case (and cooling fans) out last week, and it was pretty dusty! What do you consider a safe max temp for the e7600 CPU? When I do Intel Burn Test, my CPU (at 3.3Ghz) peaks at around 61C (ambient room air temp is around 22C). I use an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro (rev. 2)...

Does this mean that although your computer only shows ~3.25GB as useable (in system properties, 32 bit OS), the rest of the memory (between 3.25 to 4GB), is actually being used to address hardware, but you just can't 'see it' being used as it's hidden to the user? In other words, it's not going...

3.3v rail not at spec - could this cause boot/GPU probs?

Reusing old 420W power supply - Comments please.

What's the make/model of your 420 W power supply? You have to look at the amps listed on the power supply label for each voltage. Old power supplies (i.e. 8+ years ago) were designed to put out more amps on the 5 volt line as computers back then had CPUs that tended to feed off the 5 volt line...

Computer pauses every now and then, cause?

it could be that your computer is set up to go into power savings mode, such that after some inactivity, your hard drive(s) power down to save electricity, and then when your computer needs to access the drives, it pauses while the drive "wakes up"
