That's the reason... enabling Enhanced Halt State throttles the CPU multiplier based on the load factor on the CPU. It's enabled for energy savings. If you disable it, then the CPU will be run just at the max multiplier that the CPU is designed for.
Not much activity in this discussion, so I thought I'd just add a few words saying that my 4CoreDual-Sata2 is going on 6 years in age and continues to work very well for me. It has been very stable, reliable, and performs pretty good all things considered. Long may it continue!

Well, the difference between a Rev 1 and a Rev 2 board is just the sound chip.
The Rev 1 uses ALC888 Realtek Audio.
The Rev 2 uses ALC662 Realtek Audio.
You can use a free program like Speccy to find out, or if you have good eyes, look at the actual chip on the motherboard.

Did you clear the cmos after you flashed the board with the new bios? If you don't do that, then the board won't properly detect the 2x2 (happened to me).
Also, try putting in just 1 stick, boot it up... see if it recognizes that stick ok. If ok, then, shut down the computer and then add...
I knew somebody who had a 4CoreDualSata-2 board, and they removed the Northbridge heatsink on their board and apparently their Via PT880 chip had printed on it 'Pro' and not Ultra... so?! not sure what to make of that....
Thank you nightspydk for getting back to me (re: 4gb & hardware reserved). My pcie video card has 512mb onboard, so yes, that would fit into the equation of the 3.24Gb physical memory that shows up on my system as being recognized (out of the 4Gb installed).

Well it reads 3327MB for me. And if I go in AIDA64 Extreme edition (v. 2.85.2400), into "Motherboard" then "Chipset" it shows: DRAM Slot 1: 2GB .... and... DRAM Slot 2: 1280 MB (which totals 3.280, which is what it should total roughly)

Yes, the 4830 will work with this board, if you use the latest bios (get the PCtreiber 2.20a bios), and turn off in the bios 2 settings ... PCIE Downstream Pipeline must be Disabled in BIOS, and also PCIE VC1 Request Queue must be Disabled.

anonxlg, did you try to increase the FSB of the memory? Take it off auto mode and start tweaking! Slowly crank it up from the stock 266 to as high as you can go... that will increase your memory overclock and your CPU speed... be sure to test it with Memtest86+ and cpuburn etc...
Michael, where are you getting the voltage readings from? If you're not already, get the readings directly from a digital multi-meter, as BIOS readings are known to be inaccurate.
Lazlo, I'd rather suspect that neither of your operating systems (98SE and W2K Pro) will properly support running your C2D e4600 in dual core mode. Yeah, install Win 7 or at least XP to get your rig running better!
What's the make/model of your 420 W power supply? You have to look at the amps listed on the power supply label for each voltage. Old power supplies (i.e. 8+ years ago) were designed to put out more amps on the 5 volt line as computers back then had CPUs that tended to feed off the 5 volt line...

it could be that your computer is set up to go into power savings mode, such that after some inactivity, your hard drive(s) power down to save electricity, and then when your computer needs to access the drives, it pauses while the drive "wakes up"
