Hmm... i have the Armor+, simply because i like the space & removable mobo tray... But what i can't figure out is why everyone is forcing those HDD cages, where you mount them sideways... It doesn't cool very well, and you could put more drives in there simply by using those 3in4 drive...

Green VS Black

As far as i know the Black is a lot faster in benches... in real world i wouldn't know. Green spins @5400rpm, while the Black spins @ 7200rpm... I'm sure someone will give a more detailed explanation :)

is my 1TB seagate dead?

Okay i had the exact same problem with 2 of my Samsung f1's. Are you possibly using a Gigabyte motherboard? because i did a bit of research when it happened to me, and it happens with 1Tb drives sometimes. The board just decides to switch to 24-bit LBA adressing, or some thing like that...

Suddenly Lost HDD Partition...

Okay, i have to express my very big dissatisfaction with Gigabyte. To be able to loose a partition simply by plugging it in another SATA port is not a good thing. I lost the last 6 hours or so, and finally fixed it. Its something to do with Gigabyte & Samsung & 24bit adressing or something...

Suddenly Lost HDD Partition...

Hello, Well i kind of have a big problem... when i was installing 2 new drives in my Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6, i hooked up one new drive to the Gigabyte SATA ports and one old drive (the added 2 ports, not the Intel ICH9R ones) and when i got into windows it said the drives have 32MB?!? I tried...

WD 640GB Black Edition Problem

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

I have a router i got from my ADSL provider, and its more than enough for my needs (net and security wise) :), so i don't feel like investing in a gigabit router which is probably more expensive But for my home net i'd prefer something with a bit more speed (the router i have is only 100MBit)...

I know what you're saying... i wasn't looking at any of the "serious" equipment... just something not dirt cheap, but still afordable... i started off at 20$ and ended up at 200 :D I'm not looking for RAID5 or RAID6 controllers, because i'm planning on a storage server in about 6 months and...

Okay, since i can get it i'll go with the netgear GS105GE, its not very expensive and has all the ports i'll need in the next 2 years :) So realistically i can expect something in the range from 35 - 55MB/s? because that's what i was hoping for... my old 100MBit network was really slow...

Looking for a SATA controller card

Well i found a 15$ eSATA card from Innovision, but i'm willing on spending a bit more just for the option of running RAID0 or RAID1 on the card in the future, and since its PCI-E its pretty future proof.

It won't be overheating or anything + its going to be hooked up to a UPS so now power loss/spikes :) Thanx for all the advice... i know i'm kind of limited with my options here :) I'll get the D-Link before new year... i don't have high demands just that it works like its supposed to :D lol

i'm in Croatia... i tried shipping from some web shops, but that ended up costing me much more because they either charged the shipping a lot or the customs added about 15% to the price + if i ever need to RMA it would be a pain, this way i just carry it back to the shop i bought it from :)...

Oh i almost forgot to ask, can any switch work 24/7? i'll probably turn it off sometimes when i don't need it but i mainly need it to work all the time. I'm guessing that's not a problem but i have to ask to be sure :)

Thanx for all the replies, i only have 2 computers at home now, and don't plan on hooking up more than 2 more in the near future, so 5 is more than enough for me... I checked what the prices go for the 8 port models, and it's about 50% more expensive which is 74$ here (for the 8 port model)...

Well i did look at the Atom, but the only ones i can get in my country only have a 100Mbit LAN (some Gigabyte Board), and i really don't wanna move files that slow. I did look at the ASUS thing, but i can basically get much better components (the ones i wrote) for even less money...

Some advice about a cheap board

Thanx... i'm guessing 300W is already overkill, but i guess noone is making anything under that wattage :) The celeron is only about 8-10$ cheaper, and i get another core for that so... i'll stick to the Core2 generation :) it's still very cheap. I have a stock heatsink from the Core2 Quad...

Laptop HDD problem

I ordered a 44 - 40 pin adapter, and i'll try to hook it to my desktop... is there any particularly good recovery programs out there? Its like when you get a new HDD, and windows just detects its there, but its unformatted yet...

Quiet 120mm case fan & CPU heat sink recommendations??

I have a couple (okay 5) Scythe Slipstream 1900rpm fans in my Armor+ and at top speed they're not quiet :) But if you keep them @about 1200rpm, or simply buy a 1200rpm version they're practically silent. The S-Flex has fluid bearings so it should be even more quiet.

Recommended PSU ??

I love my Corsair 750TX... works great, and its not that expensive. But on the other hand i prefer my PSU to have a single +12V rail, and you'll probably get differing opinion on that. They have a 650TX model too, which i hear people like a bit more... and its also not expensive. PC P&C...

November 17, 2008 new Nvidia Big Bang 2 drivers!

I wouldn't say its completely useless. I'm not really into programming any more, but the guys that work in the same department as i do say it will help a lot. We do a lot of CFD, and i guess CUDA speeds it up a lot... and they also said something about that DX10.1 cards, and 32-bit precision...

Ok... Well the cheapest one would currently be Samsung F1 1TB. it goes for about 155$, and its the cheapest 1TB drive i can get. The first one above it is Seagate, and 10$ more expensive, but the warranty for Seagate here is 3 years so... it's basically the same. I think i'll be getting...

Okay i read that, and i don't think i want to get a drive that has issues. I don't care if the solution is as simple as a different firmware, because if they made that mistake, who knows what else is wrong with the drive... I guess i'll stick to the "old" 3 platter 1TB drive.
