    The latest from ThermalTake

Hmm... i have the Armor+, simply because i like the space & removable mobo tray... But what i can't figure out is why everyone is forcing those HDD cages, where you mount them sideways... It doesn't cool very well, and you could put more drives in there simply by using those 3in4 drive...

    Green VS Black

As far as i know the Black is a lot faster in benches... in real world i wouldn't know. Green spins @5400rpm, while the Black spins @ 7200rpm... I'm sure someone will give a more detailed explanation :)

    is my 1TB seagate dead?

Okay i had the exact same problem with 2 of my Samsung f1's. Are you possibly using a Gigabyte motherboard? because i did a bit of research when it happened to me, and it happens with 1Tb drives sometimes. The board just decides to switch to 24-bit LBA adressing, or some thing like that...

    Suddenly Lost HDD Partition...

Okay, i have to express my very big dissatisfaction with Gigabyte. To be able to loose a partition simply by plugging it in another SATA port is not a good thing. I lost the last 6 hours or so, and finally fixed it. Its something to do with Gigabyte & Samsung & 24bit adressing or something...

    Suddenly Lost HDD Partition...

Hello, Well i kind of have a big problem... when i was installing 2 new drives in my Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6, i hooked up one new drive to the Gigabyte SATA ports and one old drive (the added 2 ports, not the Intel ICH9R ones) and when i got into windows it said the drives have 32MB?!? I tried...

    WD 640GB Black Edition Problem

I don't really see the problem, except that big drop @arround 30% on the 640GB drive. I got similar benches on all my drives when i had BitDefender running, i disabled it for 5 minutes to run the bench and got this: http://img354.imageshack.us/im...nchmarkwdcwd640mn6.png It's pretty...

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

I have a router i got from my ADSL provider, and its more than enough for my needs (net and security wise) :), so i don't feel like investing in a gigabit router which is probably more expensive But for my home net i'd prefer something with a bit more speed (the router i have is only 100MBit)...

Looking for a SATA controller card

I know what you're saying... i wasn't looking at any of the "serious" equipment... just something not dirt cheap, but still afordable... i started off at 20$ and ended up at 200 :D I'm not looking for RAID5 or RAID6 controllers, because i'm planning on a storage server in about 6 months and...

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

Okay, since i can get it i'll go with the netgear GS105GE, its not very expensive and has all the ports i'll need in the next 2 years :) So realistically i can expect something in the range from 35 - 55MB/s? because that's what i was hoping for... my old 100MBit network was really slow...

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

Is that this one?? http://www.vemil.hr/opis.aspx?...Template=0&Sifra=50015 The page is in my language, but the basic picture and specs should be in english... If it is it goes for the same price as D-Link so...

Looking for a SATA controller card

Well i found a 15$ eSATA card from Innovision, but i'm willing on spending a bit more just for the option of running RAID0 or RAID1 on the card in the future, and since its PCI-E its pretty future proof.

Looking for a SATA controller card

Hello, I was looking arround for some controller cards because i ran out of SATA ports in my storage computer :) So i didn't want to get the cheapest one, but on the other hand i don't really want to give out a months pay for some of the stuff out there. I have to admit this is my 1st...

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

It won't be overheating or anything + its going to be hooked up to a UPS so now power loss/spikes :) Thanx for all the advice... i know i'm kind of limited with my options here :) I'll get the D-Link before new year... i don't have high demands just that it works like its supposed to :D lol

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

i'm in Croatia... i tried shipping from some web shops, but that ended up costing me much more because they either charged the shipping a lot or the customs added about 15% to the price + if i ever need to RMA it would be a pain, this way i just carry it back to the shop i bought it from :)...

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

I'm kind of limited to buying stuff in my own country (unfortunately no newegg...) so i tried finding the trendnet here, but i guess there are no dealers for it here, i can only get Trendnet's wireless products and nothing else. I saw a good deal for the D-Link DGS-1008D, its 8 ports, and...

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

Oh i almost forgot to ask, can any switch work 24/7? i'll probably turn it off sometimes when i don't need it but i mainly need it to work all the time. I'm guessing that's not a problem but i have to ask to be sure :)

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

Thanx for all the replies, i only have 2 computers at home now, and don't plan on hooking up more than 2 more in the near future, so 5 is more than enough for me... I checked what the prices go for the 8 port models, and it's about 50% more expensive which is 74$ here (for the 8 port model)...

Some advice about a cheap board

Well i did look at the Atom, but the only ones i can get in my country only have a 100Mbit LAN (some Gigabyte Board), and i really don't wanna move files that slow. I did look at the ASUS thing, but i can basically get much better components (the ones i wrote) for even less money...

Need help choosing a cheap gigabit switch

Hello, I'm building myself a small home network, and i don't plan on hooking up more than 4 computer at any time... When i was building my house i planned a network and already layed out the cables so this should be much faster than wireless... But now i'm kind of stuck with choosing a...

Some advice about a cheap board

Thanx... i'm guessing 300W is already overkill, but i guess noone is making anything under that wattage :) The celeron is only about 8-10$ cheaper, and i get another core for that so... i'll stick to the Core2 generation :) it's still very cheap. I have a stock heatsink from the Core2 Quad...

Some advice about a cheap board

Hello, I'm planing on building a small home server in the next week or so, and i need some advice on what mobo to get. The plan is to have a computer that uses as less power as possible, but still be able to act as a home or download server. Here's the choice of motherboards: Gigabyte...

    Laptop HDD problem

    Laptop HDD problem

Hello... I just had my laptop "die" on me today... well i don't have any important data on it, but my wife has a couple of Gb of her pictures on it... and this a kind of a bad time to say "i told you so" about that backup thing... :D Now its not the laptop that dies its just the HDD, but...

Quiet 120mm case fan & CPU heat sink recommendations??

I have a couple (okay 5) Scythe Slipstream 1900rpm fans in my Armor+ and at top speed they're not quiet :) But if you keep them @about 1200rpm, or simply buy a 1200rpm version they're practically silent. The S-Flex has fluid bearings so it should be even more quiet.

    Recommended PSU ??

I love my Corsair 750TX... works great, and its not that expensive. But on the other hand i prefer my PSU to have a single +12V rail, and you'll probably get differing opinion on that. They have a 650TX model too, which i hear people like a bit more... and its also not expensive. PC P&C...

    Buying a new 24" - HP LP2475w or Samsung 2493HM

Okay, i just checked out the PRAD review's on both monitors, i prefer the HP, but i'm a bit bothered by the "corona" effect, and the Input Lag they found... Anyone has some experience with this lag? is it really a problem or is it too low on this monitor to be a problem... In contrast the...

    Buying a new 24" - HP LP2475w or Samsung 2493HM

OK, i'll check out those reviews now... but the reason i'm kind of tied between those monitors is the price, and availability. I had the Dell 2408 but then i sold it because the input lag bothered me (and the Dell goes for 1000$ here) And what about the TN Samsung? is that any good, because...

    Buying a new 24" - HP LP2475w or Samsung 2493HM

Well, i finally managed to persuade my wife to try out the "gaming world", and now after picking out all the components for the computer i'm gonna get her i'm left with the final choice - what monitor. Now the choice here is pretty limited, there are barely no IPS monitors available, and only...

So What happened to AMD processors?

Yeah, but that's exactly the reason why monopoly laws should be enforced even more. Its not "fair market competition"... Intel has a lot of cash, and it was simply throwing it around to anyone who would take it. I mean OK, if you want to sell as much of your product lower the prices, don't...

    Seagate 1.5TB

OK :) i was just curious.. i didn't know its so important it has its on category :D We don't have that so. Anyways, a shame about the 1.5TB drive... it seemed so good from a price point of view.

    Seagate 1.5TB

Okay i just found an RE3 drive... in one single shop :) It goes for about 300$, while the Samsung and the Seagate are half the price. It is more expensive, and when i factor in the fact i'll be getting at least 6 of those... Do you think that when taking the price into consideration, is...

November 17, 2008 new Nvidia Big Bang 2 drivers!

I wouldn't say its completely useless. I'm not really into programming any more, but the guys that work in the same department as i do say it will help a lot. We do a lot of CFD, and i guess CUDA speeds it up a lot... and they also said something about that DX10.1 cards, and 32-bit precision...

ATI xf 4830 slaps NV 280 around

That was an OK review... even though i don't really like SLI/crossfire i must say i liked seeing such a cheap solution being equal or better than nVidia's flagship 280 :) It might not scale well everywhere, but some people looking for cheap solutions and specific games will probably be...

    Seagate 1.5TB

Ok... Well the cheapest one would currently be Samsung F1 1TB. it goes for about 155$, and its the cheapest 1TB drive i can get. The first one above it is Seagate, and 10$ more expensive, but the warranty for Seagate here is 3 years so... it's basically the same. I think i'll be getting...

    Seagate 1.5TB

Well i'm also looking for a drive just for storage... and when i decide about the brand i'll be getting 6-8 of these drives and put them in RAID1, but i still want to be as reliable as possible. I just saw a couple of articles where Seagate "acknowledges" there are problems... so 1.5Tb is...

    Seagate 1.5TB

Okay, i have a question, i see a lot of people buying WD's Green Power line of drives, and since they work @ 5400rpm, is it safe to assume they'll be more durable... And i'm sure the speed of the drive is adequate. Any owners here?
  39. L

    Seagate 1.5TB

Okay i read that, and i don't think i want to get a drive that has issues. I don't care if the solution is as simple as a different firmware, because if they made that mistake, who knows what else is wrong with the drive... I guess i'll stick to the "old" 3 platter 1TB drive.

    Seagate 1.5TB

:) Well, i probably sound like a broken record, but i only wish i had those prices :D 1.5TB goes for 230$ here, and most 1TB drives go for about 200$ +/- 20$ Anyway, i was asking because i need to make a dedicated computer that would work 24 hours a day, for 5 days a week, and Seagate...
