Your thinking of the 360. The PS3's GPU only has 256MB GDDR3 700MHz a 128bit bus ( 22.4GB/s bandwidth ).

Hearing bad things about ATIs drivers

I thought nvidia was angry about BFG10k's reviews of the 470 and is now ignoring ABT. On-Topic I still have no issues with the drivers for my 4870. I'm still not a fan of CCC, but ATT works just fine.

gtx465 reviews are up

5850 still looks like a better deal than this card. Once you add up power savings the 5850 will more than likely end up being cheaper also. GTX 465 = :thumbsdown:

[Bug] Nvidia removes restrictions on hybrid NV+ATI Physx setups!!!

For your information ansiotropic / trilinear filtering optimization are completely seperate options and are not enabled with Catalyst AI. Also ATI's architecture is more dependent on profiles updates to fully utilize it's extra SPUs, which is why Catalyst AI should always be enabled.

Galaxy gtx 470 with non reference cooler review. Only 80c at load!

I seriously doubt a single slot cooler will keep that card cool without sounding like a tornado running inside a HTPC. I wonder how many of these cards will get RMA after the 1st week.

Looks like the 5830 / GTX 465 should be very close in performance, but honestly $250 is way too much. I paid less than $200 for my 4870 1GB over a 1.5 yrs ago, and IMO these cards a way overpriced.

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. If that's the case why not compare HD 5970 CrossFireX against GTX480 SLI. They both would require 2 PCI-E sockets and the 5970 quadfire uses less power...

Completely agree, but if your buying a laptop for gaming then your going to need the best mobile card that's out, and this whole naming structure is just meaningless.

DVI connection doesn't need a overscan setting tab. In fact I find it strange to see that some HDTV are still using overscan. I would recommond trying to find a way to access your HDTV's service menu and see if there's any way to remove the overscan. If that does't work you can always try...

UPDATED, Part 4 of Benches out! E8400 vs Core i7 with my 5970,5870 and 5850

Thanks for the benchmarks. Looks like the E8400 held up just fine with a 5870, so I guess my Q9300 still has some life left in it for a new GPU upgrade.

catalyst 10.4 on ATI site now

These drivers are older than the 10.4a preview driver and don't have the BC2 fix for the 4000 series. I guess I'll have to stay with 10.4a preview driver for now.

Starting new monitor research: Why not just get a LCD TV?

Well I agree you should distance yourself from the monitor depending on the size. If you sitting 2ft away then I wouldn't suggest using a HDTV. Currently my desk allows me to sit about 3.5 ft away from my 37" monitor which IMO is fine. I have no problems having to view the whole screen in one...

Does Catalyst AI in Catalyst 10.3 lower the in-game visual quality?

Looking over the screenshots I see nothing wrong with Catalyst AI. In fact the CoD screenshot looks better with it on. CoD6 - Grass looks less jagged with AI on / IQ is better L4D - no difference / IQ same Dirt2 - time of day is different / IQ same Farcry2 - time of day is different / IQ same

Unigine Heaven 2.0 is out

Parts of DX11 API can run on DX9, DX10, and DX10.1 hardware. The 4800 series is able to using DirectCompute 4.1 and Multithreaded Rendering from the DX11 API, beside all of features from the DX10.1 API.

If you do a 4890/4870 CF setup then the 4890 will end up running at a similar performance as the 4870 that it's matched up with. The higher you can clock that 4870 the better off you are. There's no downsides that I know of now that the 4890 is only a $5 difference. The upside is the 4890...

ATI has told us that the 4770, 4850, and 4870 GPUs are all EOL and have been discontinued, so once existing inventory is gone, that's it. The Radeon 4890 is still in production as of today, but they told us that they will phase it out either in Q4 or Q1 of next year...

Catalyst 9.12 Beta - 8.663.1

These drivers don't have a Catalyst_Version in the inf file, so it uses the last version installed. It be changed in the registry by adding that string word.
