290 Newegg RMA Complaint

This is what happened with my 280x that I had to RMA. Newegg didn't give me the option, just straight to refund. Fine by me in the end, I decided to step up to a 290 and ordered it from a different retailer.

What gaming res. are you targeting? (and what gpu do you intend to use for that?)

5760x1080, and before reading these posts though I thought I was doing ok running them on a 2gb 6950 :P I had thought about a 7970/280x but at this point I think I'll have to wait for the 290 to come out.

Eyefinity on 7970/280x

So, little hard to find good reviews that cover Eyefinity. I'm currently running a 3x1080p setup on my 6950, which is definitely starting to show its age. Is anyone out there running a similar setup on a single 7970 that could comment on it? From the benches it seems like I'd gain a decent boost...

Eh, new audio + GE at a reduced price, I might end up going for one of these. I've never spent more than $300 on gfx so the 290 would have to be a pretty big improvement to sway me.

Am I reading this correct, looks like a 280X is a rebadged 7970GE? At $299 msrp that's not horrible, I would have liked a proper new card at that price though.

Should I stay away from HP laptops??

I purchased a dv6 earlier this year when the 3rd gen i7s came out. I was very impressed with the price/performance and the matte 1080p screen is fantastic. But, I'm on my 2nd one because the first had absolutely horrible build quality, the current one was much improved but I'm still disappointed...

Can't format laptop for xop use... help.

Did you try the various compatibility modes with the program in Win7? I've only had a very small handful of programs that wouldn't work at all. If that fails try XP mode if it is Win7 Pro, otherwise VMware Player or one of the other virtualization programs.

Why didnt intel use HT on the QX series?

Wasn't P4 hyperthreading horrible? I seem to remember most programs actually running worse with it enabled. It probably just took them a while to make it actually useful and worth including on the other gen.

i5-750 to i5-3570k, will I have to reinstall Windows?

This install is actually only a few months old, when i got my Crucial M4 :P Overall though guess its worth a shot, I'll be swapping the chip/board/mem out tonight and we'll see what happens. If not then looks like I'll be calling some overseas 800 numbers...

i5-750 to i5-3570k, will I have to reinstall Windows?

Pretty sure I know the answer to this, because I have never not reinstalled Windows, but I have so much licensed software I'd really rather not this time around. Anyone have experience moving between Intel cpu generations and just moving their OS drive over?

Gaming laptops between 600 to 900$

If you catch a good coupon, the new HP dv6 with a 650m gt games quite nicely (it is supposedly about the same as the old 560m). I got mine for a little over $1k but there's options you could trim off to get it lower. I would not skimp on the screen though, the 1080p upgrade is awesome. Lenovo...

Are there any mobile video cards that can game on 1080p?

The 650m GT in the new HP dv6 I just got is doing quite nicely @ 1080p. I get 50+fps in Diablo 3 and around 30 in Battlefield 3.

Does anyone run a ssd in their laptop?

I'm putting a ssd in my laptop, but it isn't my primary computer, so I'm ok with the reduced space. After installing one in my desktop, I don't think I could stand not having one :P If I really did need the space, I'd look harder at the Seagate hybrid drive or one of these newer laptops which...

Gaming laptop - 17.3" or 15.6"

I was recently shopping for a gaming laptop as well. Personally the 17" seemed way too big and since most higher end 15" models can come with a 1080p screen, you really aren't losing out on much other than weight.

< 1500 $ laptop to play diablo 3 on max?

All the manuf I've seen offering that card say late May shipping dates. For myself, I'm looking at the Nvidia 650m (the ddr5 is roughly equal to the 560m which should play D3 fine) which should be available on a few IB laptops starting next week. The new HP DV6 is one I'm keeping an eye on...

Possible to get laptop for Diablo 3 for ~500? What to look for?

I haven't seen benchmarks for D3 but a Llano A6/8 processor might be able to do pretty well and would be a bit closer to $500. Unfortunately with Ivy Bridge you won't see a cheaper model for a bit because they are supposedly only launching the quad core i7s in the near future, it will be closer...

Have you ever had a processor fail on you?

One, an old AMD Duron chip, I think it was after a power surge though. Killed its original motherboard and it also managed to fry the 2nd board I bought to try and test it. Fortunately I just claimed the Mobo was DOA and returned it :)

You can get a full Win7 laptop (granted a cheap model on sale) for less, I think that was the biggest issue. I had one that they handed out at GoogleIO last year, sold it after a month because I couldn't figure out wth to do with it. It required internet for everything I tried, despite them...

Help choosing between these laptops

I think you're looking at some of the same models I've been. Personally I like the Asus of those 3, but I'd take those savings and get an extended warranty. The 460 shouldn't be much slower than the 1.5gb 560, dunno about that 6850.

Windows Home Server 2011 box

Personally I would go with that prebuilt proliant server. I was able to build my WHS for pretty dang cheap but I was never able to find a case as nice as the one they have. 4 hdd bays is really sweet.

Dual channel RAM with a single stick

I'd take out that 2gb stick and make sure the 2x4gb ones are in the proper channels (usually every other dimm slot, but check your mobo manual)
