    Different motherboards read temperatures differently so don't worry too much. You can't compare CPU temps between different motherboards for that reason. Temp readings for AMD chips are pretty innaccurate anyway (although finally they have started putting an on-die temp diode in the new chips)...

    I would imagine (since you don't care to overclock and such) your best option would be to buy a retail 1.4GHz chip and just use the stock hsf. I'm sure it's adequate for normal use. If you want to run just a little cooler, perhaps you can check out the alpha pal6035. It'll be a little louder...

    I think WSPTrooper is missing the point that the only way to measure cpu temp on an athlon is with the thermisistor ON THE MOTHERBOARD. Unless of course you have your own temp probe, which is still inaccurate. To be really accurate, you need an internal diode such as on the p3.
