I ended up with a tyan server board with 32 gb of memory and a 1230 e3 sandy bridge. With a 512 gb ssd i am all set. Cost is around $1200. And proxmox isnt even breaking a sweat.

reliable server hosting? virtual desktops?

You may want to look at amazon web services. They provide virtual web servers, I don't like how they calculate there billing as its a bit convoluted (done by the hour/minute/bandwidth). That said its incredibly easy to setup servers, but pay attention to their pricing strategies.

Make sure your dns is working/configured properly. Open up a command prompt and type this in: ipconfig /all share the results. then type in nslookup share the results. This will help us figure out what's going on...

To get a better contact you may try pulling up on the clasp that holds the rj-45 in the port. A lot of these "snagless" cables don't let the clasp go up high enough to force the jack to be snug. If you are using a snagless cable, then slide the plastic hood back, and pry the clasp up a bit...

How do you reroute a domain name to a different IP address?

Why do you want to do this? One thing you can do is use opendns, and program it to block a site. Then when you need to use the site change the dns to google's dns. So many ways to do what you want but I would like to know why and that will help us give you the appropriate answer. j
