Question Anyone can give advice about 12th Gen or 13 air cooling

I have an Intel i9-13900K (Asus multicore enhancement off) cooled by a Noctua NH-D15 with two heatsink fans in a Fractal Define R5 case. While rendering simple 4K videos up to several minutes in length, my temps vary from the 50's to the low 90's, but are typically around 80°C. At idle (web...

Which of these cases is best

I just did a rebuild for work using my old Antec Solo. It's probably quite similar to your Sonata. It has no front USB 3 ports and no cable management to speak of, but oh do I love it's piano black finish! I'll get a USB 3 extension cord to run from the back for those infrequent times that I...

    About EVGA Power Supply

Well, the 650 P2 is not to shabby either: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=446 You can't make a bad decision! So you have a great 750 G3, a great 650 P2, and a probably great 650 G3. If you are not in a hurry you can wait for a sale. The P2 650/750 has a 10...

    case recommendation

I've seen videos of that case, but have never owned one. It's a few pounds heavier than your current case. To stay light, you might want to start with some aluminum cases such as Lian-Li or Silverstone. I don't have a specific case in mind, but someone else might. Consider going to...

    case recommendation

Yes, the MB is removable, but some cases come with a tray on to which you attach your MB. The MB fastened to the attached tray can be easily moved in or out of the case. With most cases you just screw your MB into the case directly, there is no tray. Your current case is small and lightweight...

    case recommendation

Do you need a 5.25 inch bay for a DVD writer? I don't think that many cases come with a removable MB tray currently, though I could be mistaken. Maybe you need to compromise on that requirement.

    Are ASROCk motherboards any good?

My concern about many of the higher end Asrock boards is the lack of rear USB 2 ports. I've read that some peripherals such as keyboards and mice can have issues when plugged in to USB 3 ports. I'm not sure if and how often this really manifests itself and if there are any work arounds.

11yrs later my very first PSU is going strong!!

Well, that 's exactly what I did. I didn't have any spare PSU's, so the Corsair will fill that need should it ever arise. I don't build a lot of PC's like many of you do here, but maybe a it will be a lifesaver or diagnostic tool in the future.

11yrs later my very first PSU is going strong!!

Oh, I feel totally remorseful after this thread. I pulled a corsair HX 520 out of my 6 year old build. I'm on my second build since I pulled the Corsair, and both times I succumbed to a brand new shiny PSU rather than reuse the Corsair. I looked at it this week with a flashlight shining through...

    Loose LGA 1366 Socket

I don't know. I'm kind of disgusted with the whole thing right now. I spent two days getting it ready, testing with Realbench and Memtest86 screenshots, disassembling, etc. I would hate to sell it and find out its not working and I'm too lazy to put it all back together and test it myself...

    Loose LGA 1366 Socket

I finally found installation instructions for the heatsink and it turns out that I was correct. The original MB backplate was discarded for the Scythe backplate which fasted down the CPU holder as well as the heatsink. In replacing it, I bent some pins however Oh well.

    Loose LGA 1366 Socket

I am disassembling my computer for sale of its parts. It was a custom built (not by me) Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 with an Intel i7-920 processor and a Scythe Mugen SCMG-2000 heatsink. While removing the backplate of the cooler, I removed 8 screws, 4 long and 4 short. I'm 90% sure that all these...

It sounds like a plan. With the GPU blowing some air directly toward the front, that's another reason the front exhaust might be superior to intake.

    Help me setup intake/exhaust fans

So the Zotac appears to be an overclocked reference design, i.e. it blows the hot air out the back of the card. The Arctic cooler is a low profile design that blows down on the MB. Yes, my guess is that you will have better air flow with the front exhausting. I just don't think you will get...

    Help me setup intake/exhaust fans

So which heatsink and GPU just so we understand each other. That case is unusual with only an 80mm rear fan. The two side fans must be intake fans to be the most effective. I would make the rear 80mm an exhaust. That leaves the front fan. I'm guessing it will work better as an exhaust, but you...

Suggest Mobo for Skylake CPU + M.2 x4 SSD

I would look again at the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming. If you want better sound, you typically have to get a "gaming" board. It only has one M.2 slot, but you could add an additional SSD using a PCI slot. The PCI slot SSD's typically have arrangements for better cooling too if I am not mistaken...

    Dmi 2.0

In an article on the differences in the various Skylake chipsets, Matt Bach at Puget Systems writes: In addition to having fewer and slower PCIe lanes, H110 also still uses the older DMI 2.0 revision which means the connection between the chipset and the CPU is a bit slower than it is on the...

    fans... this or that?

If you look at both the 120 and 140mm versions of the industials at Amazon, you can read a lot of reviews. It appears that they are more noisy, even at the same RPM as the other Noctuas. They come with fewer extras, e.g. Y and low noise adapters, etc. It appears that you can't run them at lower...

i3-6100 or FX-8320E for budget gaming PC?

No the 600 B1 is not nearly as nice quality as the Superflower constructed 750 B2. The B2 is also semi-modular. I know you really don't need the power, but it would allow them to use any single GPU that the might want in the future. https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/600B/11.html...

i3-6100 or FX-8320E for budget gaming PC?

Between these two fans, which for front intake?

Well, the surface area of the 200mm is approximately equal to that of two 140's, excluding the dead space of the hubs. However, the 200mm will probably be able to spin slower and quieter for an equal air output (compared to one 140mm definitely, but I'm not positive about two 140's) I would...
