Do you need a 5.25 inch bay for a DVD writer? I don't think that many cases come with a removable MB tray currently, though I could be mistaken. Maybe you need to compromise on that requirement.

Are ASROCk motherboards any good?

My concern about many of the higher end Asrock boards is the lack of rear USB 2 ports. I've read that some peripherals such as keyboards and mice can have issues when plugged in to USB 3 ports. I'm not sure if and how often this really manifests itself and if there are any work arounds.

11yrs later my very first PSU is going strong!!

Well, that 's exactly what I did. I didn't have any spare PSU's, so the Corsair will fill that need should it ever arise. I don't build a lot of PC's like many of you do here, but maybe a it will be a lifesaver or diagnostic tool in the future.

Oh, I feel totally remorseful after this thread. I pulled a corsair HX 520 out of my 6 year old build. I'm on my second build since I pulled the Corsair, and both times I succumbed to a brand new shiny PSU rather than reuse the Corsair. I looked at it this week with a flashlight shining through...

I don't know. I'm kind of disgusted with the whole thing right now. I spent two days getting it ready, testing with Realbench and Memtest86 screenshots, disassembling, etc. I would hate to sell it and find out its not working and I'm too lazy to put it all back together and test it myself...

Loose LGA 1366 Socket

I finally found installation instructions for the heatsink and it turns out that I was correct. The original MB backplate was discarded for the Scythe backplate which fasted down the CPU holder as well as the heatsink. In replacing it, I bent some pins however Oh well.

It sounds like a plan. With the GPU blowing some air directly toward the front, that's another reason the front exhaust might be superior to intake.

So the Zotac appears to be an overclocked reference design, i.e. it blows the hot air out the back of the card. The Arctic cooler is a low profile design that blows down on the MB. Yes, my guess is that you will have better air flow with the front exhausting. I just don't think you will get...

So which heatsink and GPU just so we understand each other. That case is unusual with only an 80mm rear fan. The two side fans must be intake fans to be the most effective. I would make the rear 80mm an exhaust. That leaves the front fan. I'm guessing it will work better as an exhaust, but you...

Suggest Mobo for Skylake CPU + M.2 x4 SSD

I would look again at the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming. If you want better sound, you typically have to get a "gaming" board. It only has one M.2 slot, but you could add an additional SSD using a PCI slot. The PCI slot SSD's typically have arrangements for better cooling too if I am not mistaken...

Choosing Motherboard for i7-6700K

The Z170A and Z170AR are nearly identical with the A having DVI and VGA ports which the AR does not: http://www.asus.com/us/site/motherboards/Z170/compare/ The Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3 is a very nice board. If that is too expensive than I would consider the Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3.
