Forget about BTC mining, but if you have a card(s) it's not a bad investment long term. Blockchain technology is still at the ground floor and mining provides a way to invest. Join a multi pool that picks the most efficient alts to mine and let the cards run. Think bigger, longer term.

Thanks for the tips. VTT seems to help stabilize the high memory speeds on my board. I left vtt at 1.328v and raised vcore to 1.328. This lets me do 184blck stable. I am quite happy with 4400mhz with 6 cores loaded and stable! Tempted to push this further to 1.35v core as you mentioned...

Working on the x5670 a little more. Max I can hit stable with 1.328 vtt and 1.28v core is 4200mhz loaded. The bloodrage can force the turbo multi of 24x when all cores are loaded. I'll try and up the vcore to over 1.3 and see what happens. Memory Timings tCL (CAS Latency)...

Typo, I meant 24x multi. The l5639 would run at 18x loaded. Thanks for the voltage guidelines, I'll try to bump them up and see what happens. Any guidance on where to keep the uncore and qpi? Do they need to be similar to the core for max performance or is under 4ghz fine?

Finally getting around to this, however have some encryption questions. With Windows 10 does it make sense to use any of their built in encryption items along with an SSD? Otherwise SED's such as the x300s should be OS agnostic? I'm not concerned about speed, more security and ease of use.

The regular Bloodrage's are fantastic overclocking boards. I have two that can do 220blck without a sweat. They also accept 4gb memory modules which I have ran at 2200mhz stable. Bloodrage + x56xx + 4gb ballistix for the win.

Would you upgrade from an i7-920 to a Xeon X5650?

If you overclock, which most people do with these xeons, you need to balance the multi with bclk. A 5650 at 210blk puts it at 4.2ghz on all 6 cores, perfect. With the 5670 you will have to lower the bclk as the multiplier is much higher and perhaps even turn off turbo since it would constantly...

I think you will be hard pressed to find any performance difference between an overclocked x5660 vs anything newer. These xeon's are beasts once overclocked >4ghz.
