That is so GREAT!! Good for you! I was inducted last year to Alpha Sigma Lamda.....finally graduated after the whole work full time - go to school full time gig last May. Congrats, that really says a lot!
That's really too bad for him, but I truely believe that everything happens for a reason. Unfortunately when we're in the middle of it we don't see it as a blessing. Something better will come along for him :)

This whole process has been a major learning experience for me - I've never done anything like this.
Call off the dogs....I figured it out.
Ended up having to boot off the Windows CD again and into the Windows repair to unistall one of its updates. Update kb975561 was causing the problem, once I removed that the system booted up just fine.

I installed the nVidia chip set and was then able to get online. I updated my Norton anti-virus. After that I went to Windows update and pulled down all thier updates (76 of them). The system then asked to restart and of course I said yes. Well...
Still looking for the network card.....finally just found the correct nVidia chipset and am downloading that. It appears that it may take a while to I'm opting for a beer then bed for tonight!

OK so I bought a new 500gb hard drive and installed it. I'm in the process of installing windows. I entered the bios and had it boot off of the CD drive. I'm at the point where I'm being asked if I want to create a partition in the unpartitioned space or just set up windows on the unpartioned...

I've had the side off the case for a few years and I use the canned air about once a month. I'd still like to continue running whatever DC program my brother had on there, it was really important to him. We just have to figure out how to make it run cooler.....

The PC that I'm trying to fix is the one that I use daily and I know it's been crunching numbers for something called Muon. It was originally built from scratch in 99 but Amaroque kept it updated. He'd replace the mother board, heat sink (not sure if that's how it's spelled), hard drive, etc...
