    Apple Xserve G4

Anyone have any experience with an Apple Xserve G4 server? A hard drive died in one, and the Apple Drive Modules are stupid expensive. Can one just yank the dead drive out of the tray and put a new one in? I know there is a maximum of 250GB according to Apple (with a certain version of OS X...

    Upgrading Mini-PCI wireless card

Tried some searches, but couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I got an Acer notebook (I think the Aspire 5672, I'll check when I get home from work) which came with the Intel 3945 A/B/G card. I'm looking at moving up to N (the Intel 4965 mini-PCI, in this case) without resorting to a...

    Quiet Quadro Cooler

Hi, I am looking for a quieter cooler for two different Quadro cards, the FX1500 and FX5500. I have found some Arctic Cooling coolers that will work with some older Quadro cards, but not any of the newer ones. I checked Zalman as well, and they don't have any coolers listed as being...

System very slow once network cable is plugged in

I installed Process Explorer, and the number of running processes is the same. Oddly, with Process Explorer running, this problem stopped occuring. My boss is using the computer again with Process Explorer still running, and no problems as of yet. I'll keep updating on the situation. Thanks...

System very slow once network cable is plugged in

Hey Everyone, My boss's computer is having a strange problem, and one that I can't think of a solution for off the top of my head. Essentially, if there is a network cable plugged in, it often takes about 5 seconds to switch from one program window to another. However, if you unplug the...

Need your opinion on Exhange problem

I think I've found my problem. One of my email accounts actually gave something of use to the problem in the undeliverable message: Failed to deliver to 'testtest@blahblahblah.com' SMTP module(domain blahblahblah.com) reports: return-path address <mrbios@somethingsomething.net> rejected...

Need your opinion on Exhange problem

There are no messages in the queues. Most email I try send to this server never arrives, and about 4 hours later I get an undeliverable mail message back. What's odd is that the last email I tried to send bounced back in about a minute.

Need your opinion on Exhange problem

Hey everybody, Thanks for the help so far. Sending out emails is now working perfectly, now that the reverse record is in place. However, receiving email doesn't work at all. Sending within the same domain (meaning it's never leaving the server) works fine, but trying to send email to this...

Need your opinion on Exhange problem

Hi Everyone, Right now we're having troubles sending out emails with an Exchange 2003 server. What seems to be the BIG problem to me is that we repeatedly get marked as spam. I did a little looking into this, and I believe I've found the problem. I looked at the headers of one of the few...

    Fiber Networking

Yeah, all the fiber runs are going to be very short distance, so multimode will me more than sufficient. All runs will probably be no more than about 10 feet. What this is being used for is a customer who is going to be doing some web and email hosting. He's going to have a everything...

    Fiber Networking

Hey everyone, I'm attempting to find some fiber networking hardware that will all work together, but this has proven to be a much more daunting task than I imagined. The main problem seems to be in finding an appropriate switch. I don't care about which connectors they use, or what it will...

Compatibility issue with XP X64 and the A8N32-SLI?

Compatibility issue with XP X64 and the A8N32-SLI?

Brought over from another system. Also, there's no way in hell to get an X1800XL or XT here in Canada. Usually by the time any store gets one, they're taken extremely quickly, or they have backorders to fill.

Compatibility issue with XP X64 and the A8N32-SLI?

Yeah, so what seems to be the problem is something with the power management. It comes up with some cryptic error that the power management features aren't properly supported, and it recommends that I disable it. However, when I disable it, that's when it locks up at the 34 minutes problem. So...

Compatibility issue with XP X64 and the A8N32-SLI?

Yeah, I actually just tried a copy of regular XP now, and it locks up at the same spot: 34 minutes. I also seen another guy post about this a few minutes ago, but no listing of the specs on his system.

Compatibility issue with XP X64 and the A8N32-SLI?

Hi, I just got a new system, and I'm having problems installing XP X64. The problem is, it locks up during the installation at the same point every time, with 34 minutes to go. I've tried swapping the motherboard for another A8N32-SLI, the RAM, and every component you can think of. Has anyone...

Somewhat technical questions regarding Intel motherboards

Ok, this question is to help me here at work. I got a customer who absolutely has to have an Intel branded motherboard for a pretty simple server. However, he wasn't particularily impressed with the first one we provided him (an Intel D915GVWB) because he says there's a problem with the PCI...

Fortron 300W PSU a good idea with AthlonXP 3000+ System?

The 300W Fortron should do fine. I run a 3000+ Athlon 64, Radeon 9800 Pro, 2 hard drives, etc. etc. on a Zalman 300W power supply, and it runs just fine. (Just so you know, Zalman = Fortron design. Even on the sticker is has "FSP-300", aka Fortron Source Power)

    WD RMA nightmare...

I'd just RMA the drive. Although, just so you know, it doesn't matter what hard drive company you buy from, unless the drive failed within 30 days of purchase, you're going to get a refurbished drive. Most of the refurbs that I've ever got have worked as good as new, so the fact that it got...

How much RAM do you plan to have in your computer?

I gotta say that I'm pretty suprised at the amount of people whom have 1GB or RAM. Even though this is an enthusiast board, and 512MB seems to be the accepted minimum nowadays, I'm still suprised. I have 512MB of Kingston HyperX PC3700. It's good enough for me now. I'm just about to go to...

Should I upgrade my audio rig?

You probably won't notice that much of a difference going from an Audigy to an Audigy2. However, you will notice a BIG difference in upgrading your speakers. I used to own the ACS54s, and they we pretty good in their time, but even compared to the Z640s, they're horrible. I've got a set of Z640s...

HARD DRIVE EXPERTS- Lets have it out. Who make the most RELIABLE/STABLE?

Frankly, I generally a brand of drive that has been the most reliable for me in the last little while for me. I've stopped using Seagate's for now, since I've had 3 drives die on me within a couple month span (All different drives, not the same one that got RMA'd a few times). I don't mind the...

Decibel rating of Athlon 64 retail fans

I already had a Zalman 7000A-AlCu when I bought my Athlon 64, so naturally I just kept it. However, I did decide to plug in the Retail fan for the hell of it and see how loud it was, and it was VERY loud in comparison to the Zalman. However, I wouldn't rate it any worse than the Intel retail fans.

question on how the a64 integrated fsb works

Basically, Athlon 64 chips don't have a "FSB" per se. The way that the Athlon 64's get their CPU speed it through a multiplier of the HyperTransport bus. So, the 1.8GHz chip would have a 9x multiplier of the HyperTransport speed. You are correct in the HyperTransport being quad-pumped.

    What's a good webcam?

I know this is out of your price range, but I found it cool, nevertheless. I went into RadioShack to kill the leftover time of my lunch break, and they had the Logitech QuickCam Orbit. Horrible boot problem with new NF7-S

This may seem very odd, but that happened to me as well. I bought a 2500+ retail, NF7-S, and a Radeon 9500 that I'd been using for about a year that got passed down when I got my 9800 Pro. Anyways, whenever that video card was in the board, it would do the same thing. Go on for a few seconds...

How do you know if you are using a normal connection, winpoet,or PPPoe??

WinPoEt and PPPoE are the same thing. WinPoEt is abbrevieated for Windows PPP over Ethernet. If you have a broadband internet connection, and you still have to "dial up", then you use PPPoE to connect to the internet. Otherwise, you're not.

Maximun PC - Your opinion on the mag

I used to read it lots, but I found that it turned to BS pretty quickly. Editors changed, staff moved around to other mags, and one of them died. Pretty damn quickly the magazine turned to crap. I used to read boot all the time, and I was always excited to pick it up every month. Not so with...

what case badges are you using?

Zalman, that came with my 7000A-AlCu cooler, Antec that came with my Sonata, Powered by ATI that I ordered, Soltek that came with my motherboard, Powered by OCZ that came with my RAM that I eventually sold, and the AMD Athlon 64 that came with my Retail processor.

Need a new Power supply unit, which one?

Don't cheap out on your power supply. I'd choose the Antec over the Aspire, but the one that I think I'd recommend is the Enermax NoiseTaker 475W. I haven't used it myself, but I read a review over at Silent PC Review that it was very quiet, had stable voltages, and was the most efficient power...

Compact Digital Cam with good zoom?

A friend of mine has the Pentax Optio S camera. It was a 3 Megapixel, 3x optical zoom camera, but the biggest selling point of it was the fact that it could fit inside a tin of Altoids mints. Now that is tiny.
