System very slow once network cable is plugged in

I installed Process Explorer, and the number of running processes is the same. Oddly, with Process Explorer running, this problem stopped occuring. My boss is using the computer again with Process Explorer still running, and no problems as of yet. I'll keep updating on the situation. Thanks...

There are no messages in the queues. Most email I try send to this server never arrives, and about 4 hours later I get an undeliverable mail message back. What's odd is that the last email I tried to send bounced back in about a minute.

Brought over from another system. Also, there's no way in hell to get an X1800XL or XT here in Canada. Usually by the time any store gets one, they're taken extremely quickly, or they have backorders to fill.

Fortron 300W PSU a good idea with AthlonXP 3000+ System?

The 300W Fortron should do fine. I run a 3000+ Athlon 64, Radeon 9800 Pro, 2 hard drives, etc. etc. on a Zalman 300W power supply, and it runs just fine. (Just so you know, Zalman = Fortron design. Even on the sticker is has "FSP-300", aka Fortron Source Power)

Decibel rating of Athlon 64 retail fans

I already had a Zalman 7000A-AlCu when I bought my Athlon 64, so naturally I just kept it. However, I did decide to plug in the Retail fan for the hell of it and see how loud it was, and it was VERY loud in comparison to the Zalman. However, I wouldn't rate it any worse than the Intel retail fans.

question on how the a64 integrated fsb works

Basically, Athlon 64 chips don't have a "FSB" per se. The way that the Athlon 64's get their CPU speed it through a multiplier of the HyperTransport bus. So, the 1.8GHz chip would have a 9x multiplier of the HyperTransport speed. You are correct in the HyperTransport being quad-pumped.

Horrible boot problem with new NF7-S

How do you know if you are using a normal connection,winpoet,or PPPoe??

WinPoEt and PPPoE are the same thing. WinPoEt is abbrevieated for Windows PPP over Ethernet. If you have a broadband internet connection, and you still have to "dial up", then you use PPPoE to connect to the internet. Otherwise, you're not.

Compact Digital Cam with good zoom?

A friend of mine has the Pentax Optio S camera. It was a 3 Megapixel, 3x optical zoom camera, but the biggest selling point of it was the fact that it could fit inside a tin of Altoids mints. Now that is tiny.
