A better PCI 2.0 x16 card?

I have a ATI Radeon HD 4650, 2GB, 750 clock. O/S is Vista x64 and I'm not real anxious to move to W7. DirectX 11 and lastest updates applied. Playing World of Warships 0.5.16 it was stable. Now at 0.6.1 the client locks up roughly every other game, sometimes crashing back the BIOS. Crashes are...

Offered a HD 4670 from a friend at work - should I buy it?

A 4670 competes very well with a 9800GT. Plus it is smaller, uses less power (a lot less), therefore is cooler, therefore quieter. And it needs no power connector. I prefer it over the 9800GT. It really doesn't need a dual-slot cooler or 1GB, but wth. Offer him $70.

If it's flaky, putting it in the freezer for a half hour stands a good chance of bringing it back long enough to copy data off.

Asus P5Q Pro,auto voltages - Are all voltages increased when overclocking? - Some are,& I've now created a partial table

LLC does something else I didn't like. I was seeing occasional 5°C temperature spikes with LLC on that I had never seen before... Well, despite Prime95 Blend running for 26.5 hrs, I did a quick pass for max temp today and it failed quickly! So I've thrown up my hands and backed off to FSB...

That seems very low for 400. Have you qualified it by running Prime95 overnight? Mine "ran" at much lower voltages than it was stable at. C0 or E0 stepping? How much time on the chip at OC?

I'm not happy about having to run 1.35V for FSB=416 (yes Virginia, there is degradation). So I tried Enabling LLC and dropping the V. Ran Prime95 Blend for 26.5 hrs at 1.325V (1.30V in CPU-Z). Thanks for the tip. I'll leave LLC Disabled until I want to qualify a 24/7 OC, though.

SATA RAID 10 Hard Drive Failing

One reason drives drop out of a RAID array is that "desktop" drives have a short initialization timeout. It takes longer for an array to initialize so the drive sometimes times out, which the s/w interprets as a failure. "Enterprise" drives have a longer timeout (among other things).

Okay, at 2.1V & timings much as you suggest, CAS 4 doesn't even make DDR-800. <boo> 5-5-5-18 is solid (so far) at 951, as has been reported by others with the same sticks. 5-4-4-12 (advertised timings) POSTs at the same speed and will likely clear Memtest too. So the RAM is quite capable...

I've made separate passes at CPU and DRAM limits. CPU is limited by heat (~60°C Prime) at around 3.85GHz, but that is of course dependent on voltage, which I've been reading up on today both in that thread and the sticky Guide. I can probably bring the vCPU (1.350V setting) down by tuning FSB...

E8400 OC

Bet it's not stable (as in at least 12 hours of Prime95). On this chip it's stable enough unloaded to run Vista and not crash at lower V. But that's not good enough.

I sure wish they'd added another axis: AutoV vs. FSB. vCore is pretty easy to track, but I have no idea what vNB etc. increase to as the FSB goes up. (or if they do at all) Btw, according to the articles here, you should never enable Loadline Calibration.

More experimenting. I cranked the NB to 1.40V, RAM to 2.06V (mindful that Asus boards are reputed to over-volt by 0.1V) and was able to run 333 strap 6:5 DDR-962MHz @ tRD=10, though not stably. I tried tRD=9 (Memset) but it locked up. Obviously I was also able to run 333 strap 1:1 at those...

That's what I was doing when I ran into this issue. The article suggests that I should be able to use tRD=8 as a minimum (8-5/1 > 2/1). When I set 8 from Memset it locked up the system immediately. (I gather NB needs more voltage.) I can run 10 (Auto vNB with vCPU 1.325V (setting)); haven't...
