Thanks. That is basically what I was looking for. Would you stick with this size or is the 1TB size worth it? I've been reading that the 640GB size might be the best because it uses only 2 platters. The $25 price difference really is no big deal to me but I just want to get the best drive I can...
My first attempt at this question went unanswered so I'll ask a little more specific question. I appreciate the advice in advance.
Out of these drives which would you prefer for building an external hard drive for storage? (Taking into account heat, speed, power consumption, etc)
WD...
If you were building an external harddrive today what drive would you choose?
I'm leaning towards either a 640GB-1TB WD green/black or Seagate. Curious what you all have chosen based on speed, heat, etc.
I've been reading about this over at Slickdeals. Looks like according to people who have bought this on Newegg that it is a WD Green drive inside.
Can anyone rec a good sata card or adapter? My harddrive has sata controllers on the inside but nothing on the outside.
Looking for a SATA drive that I can turn into an external hard drive. Or an external hard drive.
Looking at the 750GB - 1 TB range because I like the price point.
Let me know what you find...
PS - I'm also looking for a external enclosure. Let me know what you find there as well...
Just an update.
I'm genuinely happy with this setup. I upgraded the video card and the PSU and am very happy with this thing. It is completely quiet - the only thing I can hear is my external hard drive. It is light years faster than my 2003 system (obviously) and the frustration and...
Is this the model that you are talking about?

Also, what about this Rosewill?

What is the best USB hub for the money? Looking to plug a 1TB external hard drive up to this thing for storage of music, photos and documents.
Please let me know what you got or what you recommend!
PCI or PCI Express
I need to connect a external HD via eSATA and would like more USB ports...
Have 2 PCI-express and 1 PCI slots open.
What are your suggestions as what to do? I've been looking for a PCI-E card that has both USB and eSATA but so far haven't found anything too promising...
Received the HP today. Its a little smaller than what I am used to but otherwise it is very nice.
The video card makes a very annoying hum.
And I have noticed that the stock PSU does not have a 12V lead (at least I don't see one)! So in order to get rid of this stupid hum and upgrade my...
Now this is interesting. Does anyone else agree with this? I'm worried that the stock 350W HP power supply will not be that good and will not be able to power a RAID array plus a hew videocard.
Can anyone else let me know about this? If I don't need the 550W I'll either return it or...
That's a very good point. Last night I spent a while googling this very question and found out that in the last few years HP has not used proprietary parts on their PSUs. This is based on a few forum discussions from various website that were asking the same question.
This is a really dumb question but is this as easy as looking at the plugs on the 2 different PSUs and comparing them? Is there anything else I should check?
Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately this has turned into a nightmare. The money I would have saved is now gone. Arrrgghh.
But it is my own damn fault.
One other thing --- I have a question about the PSU that I bought. If you have a minute please let me know what you think about if...
Will the Corsair 550w VX Series 12v ATX 80 be able to fit in my HP 9400t? Will it physically fit or does HP make it impossible to upgrade their PSUs?
Has anyone replaced the stock 350W HP powersupply (or similar brand) with an upgraded PSU?
Here is a link of the computer...
I want to be able to play at least Madden and maybe a few others in the next few months (I have vacation coming up). And I'd like to upgrade it now and be done with it.
But you might be correct - maybe I should have just seen what it could do and waited. I guess you guys inspired me.
No, I'm done!
I think the 3870 is absolutely perfect for what I want. And I like knowing that I have a little extra power especially since I have a Raid array.
From now on I will always build. If I would have been able to cancel my order today with HP I would have. But in the end it was a...
Dammit. Why didn't I just build this damn thing. Too late now. I was able to get them to refund me $50 for my trouble. Whippee! (sarcasm)
So I just bought a better PSU. I went with the Corsair VX550W ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply - CMPSU-550VX for $65 after rebate. I hope that this is an ok...
Wow. You guys are great.
So what PSU would you recommend if I upgraded to one of the cards mentioned? I tried to get more info today from HP but it was fruitless.
Not wanting to run SLI (whatever that is) or anything else really intense. Just want a good solid PSU that would be able to...
The 3850 has $9 shipping where the 3870's shipping is free. So the difference between the 2 is actually only $16.
With that said I think I am going to go with the 3870. The benchmark you linked sealed it for me. Quite a huge increase in performance over my baseline.
Thanks for the link - very good info.
How much of an upgrade would that card be over my current card?
I have been told that this is a OEM card so its tough for me to find any data on it at all to do comparison shopping.
Not really sure what resolution I'd be playing at. (Actually I am clueless to be honest).
I bought a 22" Samsung LCD if that helps.

So could you give me a few examples of a medium upgrade and perhaps a very good upgrade for the video...
First, thanks in advance for helping. I ***really*** appreciate the help.
My old computer is one that I built in 2003 and has served me well. I'm not a hardcore gamer --- I play an occasional game of Madden and that is about it.
I have decided to order (rather than build) a new HP Quad...
