Hey there -- Just encountered this issue yesterday. While browsing my screen hung up, flickered a bit, then eventually turned white. After a while, colored vertical "bands" started appearing (looked like a cool screen saver).
Eventually had to reboot and there seemed to be no problem, at...
OK so I'm running a Memtest86+ right now on the two "good" sticks from the two separate pairs. So far so good. If this goes through the day w/o any problems I guess I should return the bad sticks even though they are from different pairs? My gut instinct says "if it aint broke then don't fix it"...
Ok so get this... so I found out that it was one of the sticks of memory that was hanging up my system. I put the good stick on both slots and booted up from both positions no problem.
So today, being impatient like I am, I went to Frys and bought the exacty same Corsair Kit of Memory. Come...
I've tried swapping the sticks and booting off of one or two, etc. and anytime I put in the bad stick it just makes the computer hang up. I think I've found the problem! :) I'm gonna send both sticks to Newegg (I bought as a kit) and get some new memory. Thanks for your help guys I'm glad it's...
OK, so I just tried the memory swap. First time I just took out the second stick that was furthest from the CPU. Nothing happened. Then, I swapped the sticks and tried booting up with just the single stick and TADA! IT WORKED!
So now what?? Does that mean the other stick is bad? Or should I...
Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna try to swap the memory sticks/test one single stick. Question though.... how do I reset the graphics card?
And yes, I removed the battery with the power off and unplugged from the wall. Lastly, I guess I haven't plugged in a speaker to the jumper on the...
Hi friends,
I need some help.
Recently bought and built a new PC. Here's the specs:
Windows Ultimate x64
E8500
Asus P5Q Pro
Corsair DDR2-800 4GB (2x2GB)
Earthwatts 500W
Palit HD 4850
I've had it a week and it's been working just fine really. I tried changing some settings in...
Hi friends I'm attempting to build my first PC for gaming. I've only owned and gamed on laptops up to now so I'm new to the desktop arena. That being said, I will mostly be playing Warhammer Online with some friends and of course some other games out there if they peak my interest. Here's my...

Thanks for the replies everyone!
I think I'm going to go with the Asus 19" screen with the native 1440x900 resolution. Also, keep in mind that I'm most likely going to get the E8500 CPU. And last note, I'm not totally anal on how "jazzy" it the game looks... I really just want it to be smooth...
I am looking at the Antec Earthwatts 500W PSU for this system. I've read that it can handle the HD 4850, but would it be enough for the HD 4870? Also, if I were to ever get another GPU and run them in Crossfire one day, would this PSU be enough?
Thanks!
Edit: Clearly off topic for my main...
I'm just now gathering my list of components. I will be building a new PC (~$1,100 for everything) and mostly will be playing Warhammer Online with it.
Since I'm on a budget, I'm looking for the best GPU/Monitor "bang for your buck". I have found this...
