Seeking a 2nd Opinion: upgrading my brother's computer and Win 7

There is a very good chance that in step 3, when you connect this drive to the new mobo, it will not even boot, because of the new hardware/drivers not in the OS

Strange pc problem ( i think it have smth to do with my new cpu )

It's also possible your motherboard doesn't fully support the new processor. Just because it fits/same socket, doesn't mean it's supported. But cant tell without knowing the parts involved

can't overclock even a little

Xeon's are not designed to be OC'd, they were designed for servers & there strengths are stability, hyper threading & using ECC memory - all related to working in servers.

How much do RJ45 connections affect data transfer speed?

If every thing is a match (I.E. all components are Cat 5e) there will be no degradation, everything runs at the 'level' of the lowest component.

Advice on which motherboard to purchase

I would look for another gift (or a bigger one!) if you replace the motherboard on an OEM system, you'll also need to buy a new copy of windows. OEM's (HP, Acer, dell, etc) tie the OS to the motherboard. Your system will not boot or activate the OS.

When people buy a busted laptop for $100+ ?

On the good side, your company has 'standardized' on these laptops, easiest way to get parts. On the bad side, someone's hoping they can 'recover' your data from the harddrive, even if you've wiped it.

Most likely, if you replace the motherboard, you'll need a new OS OEM's (like Gateway, dell etc) have their OS tied to the motherboard, & a new one will 'deactivate' the current OS.

RAID 0 with mismatched Samsung SSDs

Having worked in support for one of the major raid companies, there is always an increased chance of failure with mismatched drives, not definite, but definitely an increased chance.

I sometimes get a latency average of ~500ms between my PC and wireless router

Could be any number of issues; your proximity to the router & whats in between (walls, appliances, wiring, etc) wirless devices (phones, baby monitirs, etc) other routers nearby on the same channel, drivers. Make sure you have the latest driver for your computer, possibly change 'channels' on...

Network jack not working with switch but ok with 1 pc

You can have one other issue, proper 'cable' or color termination, in itself, does not guarantee being cat 6, if your jack/cable test out to a lower cat, you will only run at the lower speed.

Asrock Extreme4 Z87 RAID 0 recovery ? Am I fuct ???

Railgun is probably right, but from working w/ Raid hardware years ago, you *MIGHT* (and I emphasize the MIGHT) be able to recover the data IF you put the OLD bios back & recreate the raid EXACTLY as it was before. AND reread Railguns last line when you are making a raid again.

Enthernet to phone port? HELP!

You say you 'upgraded' his computer, did you use the old hard drive & OS? You can also get a small mobo speaker, t for about $5, the beep code can tell whats wrong.

Honestly, unless you are going to replace your jacks & plugs, 5E is fine, your speed will be determined by the lowest denominator (jacks & plugs @ 5e) cat 6 gains you nothing.

Is an SSD really that much better than a HDD/SSD

I recently put an SSD in a ~6 yr old HPlaptop (intel dual core T2400) It had seemed slow for everything,. The only reason I didn't replace it was it's a '2nd' computer for around the house. Everything is quicker now, it 'feels' much faster, bootups, programs starting up & programs starting up...

sharing internet connection... Want a stronger connection need advice on repeater!

I'm not sure how well either of these would work, as their best placement is in the middle of the router & your place. In (overly) simplified terms they tkae the signal the recieve & pass it along. If it's a weak signal already, they will (usually) just make the weak signal travel further. Jim

Needing help with a purchase of a RAID controller

I believe that Windows home server will not support any type of RAID cards. It has its own method of doing replication and back up & being hot swappable. Adding other hardware will cause conflicts. I used to do support for a major RAID reseller that provided support for other company's RAID...
