Thinking about upgrading, need some advice please

All: I am seeking your advice .. I am contemplating upgrading from an Intel P4 2.8C which is OC'd to 3.2ghz to an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ .. I would like to know if this upgrade will be worth the money, or if I'll see any sort of benefit at all? Thanks in advance.

Is anyone using a 25ms LCD for gaming?

Yea.. I know, go with 16ms.. But I'm curious, is anyone using a 25ms LCD display for gaming? Is it really that bad? It seems like there are several 19inch LCD's out now, but hardly any of them are < 25ms.. I'm curious to hear your experiences if you have a 25ms LCD and are using it for...

Anyone using the Sony SDM-HX93 LCD for gaming?

Heya.. I'm curious if anyone is using this monitor for gaming? I was playing with one at CompUSA yesterday and they had UT2k4 going.. The display seemed really really crisp, and colors were VERY vivid.. The monitor has some pretty impressive specs on it, 800:1 contrast ratio, etc.. But...

Abit IC7 Chipset fan - Slowly dying!!

As the topic says, the chipset fan on my IC7 is making some horrendous grinding and howling noises. It is definitely not turning as fast as it used to (down to 3K RPM). Is there a drop in replacement fan that I can put in its place? Thanks!!

Ugh. Got my P4 2.4C, Memory and I can't hit 3.0ghz :(

For what it's worth, I did try this and I was able to at least post at 3:2, but the machine would randomly reboot and lockup. :(

Yep, that's me. According to my PCMark 2002 scores, I'm getting about 1500+ increase in score over the AMD XP2800+. This is with the P4 OC'd to 2.8ghz (can't hit 3.0+ but am going to try some of the suggestions in this thread). My 3DMark SE2003 score went from 5800 to a nice 6800+ rating...

Wow awesome replies, thank you all! As for my cooling, I'm running the Zalman all copper cooling unit. I can't remember the exact model, but I got it from Newegg for about 42$. Given the cooling, should I be able to run the vcore at about 1.65 if I need to, without worry?

Cool, I'll give 3:2 a try.. It's at 5:4 now with the AGP and PCI speeds locked at 66/33.. I know that nothing is a sure bet, but, I'm not complaining about 2.8 either.. Just wanted to see if there is something I overlooked and if anyone had suggestions. :)

I got everything installed on Friday. The P4 2.4C chip, Abit IC7 motherboard, and 2 256 Corsair PC3500 memory (CAS2, etc.) Anyway, seems the best I can do is 2.8ghz using the FSB overclock only.. How can I get to the magic 3ghz and beyond?? Thanks.

How to verify that my P4 2.4 is actually the C model?

I received my P4 2.4C (I hope) chip and wanted to make sure before I broke the seal that it was infact the C model. Any way to verify this? Thanks!

Going from Athlon XP 2800+ to P4 2.4C -- Question

Cool, so given the gear that I posted above, would I run into any problems OC'ing the 2.4 by changing the bus speed? I tried to get the best memory, and somewhat skimped on the motherboard. :|

Going from Athlon XP 2800+ to P4 2.4C -- Question

First off, I'm planning on overclocking the 2.4C to, I hope, 3.0ghz -- Is this going to be worth it, coming from the XP2800+ ? Here's what I've ordered, I'm hoping this will do the trick to get me to at least 3.0ghz: o Intel Pentium 4/ 2.4C GHz 800MHz FSB, 512K Cache, Hyper Threading...
