You wouldn't want to use Catalyst 12.8 due to known stability bugs, it's blocklisted (won't provide hardware acceleration) in GPU-accelerated applications like Firefox for this reason. Your best bet would be Catalyst 12.9 Beta.

I'm aware that monitors for graphics professionals don't use LED backlighting, but that's more of an artifact of those monitors being technologically conservative. On consumer monitors LED backlighting DOES offer better color compared to models with fluorescent backlighting.

What browser are you using? Firefox renders and composites on the GPU using Direct2D and Direct3D, so GDI performance should be irrelevent. Make sure you're testing with fully-updated Windows Vista/7 (preferably 64-bit), the latest drivers, and DirectX10+ hardware.

This is probably a bug in RealTemp, which has never actually been tested with a SNB-E CPU. If you were actually seeing such temperatures the "Thermal Status" at the bottom wouldn't say "OK". You should post about it on the RealTemp Forums.

The main difference is in the deinterlacing quality offered by AMD cards, especially the Radeon HD 6570 and better. If you don't spend a lot of time watching interlaced content then there's no reason to upgrade.

They're not even die-shrinks, everything below the 7700-series is just reusing 6000-series GPUs. That said, they will have new clock configurations and such, so they're not straight rebrands like nVidia or the 5700/6700-series cards.
