I built my comptuter a while back and I run it at 1920x1200 resolution (it's native to my monitor). Lately when I restart my computer it boots up at 1600x1200. I can't figure out why it's all of a sudden doing this. It's just a nuisance, I can go in and change it, but having to do so every time...
I've got a desktop hooked up to a wireless router. My laptop accesses it wirelessly. I just reformatted the laptop and I can't remember my network password since it's always been saved. Guess that's why they tell you to write it down.
I typed in the IP of the router in IE on my desktop but it...
How does a free trial work? Do I still have to go out and buy the game first? Seems kind of pointless to me, unless it's downloadable or something? Trying a game out "for free" to see if I like it after I've already purchased it seems counter-productive.
If I don't have to buy the game first...
I finished it this morning at around 5 AM. Got Windows installed, updated drivers, everything looks great. I even installed Crysis and watch the intro movie.
I downloaded SpeedFan to check my temps to make sure everything looks okay. It's currently saying 37C for my GPU and then there's...
I just got my computer parts in today and was looking at them all to make sure I got what I ordered. I noticed that Newegg sent me the OEM version of Windows Vista 64bit, and thought it was a mistake, but then looking back at my order that's what I bought on accident.
Is there anything that...
If you've got room to spare on your budget I would definitely look at a 4870 1GB GPU, you're really going to want something with more than 512mb. I just bought a GTX 260 Core 216, those are great cards as well.
If you can afford it, I'd say the E8400 is a pretty big step up from the E7300...
I know this doesn't help and I apologize but I thought this would be better placed here than in a new thread...
...how do I stream media from my PC to my 360?
This is the motherboard I went with. It'll save a few bucks and like he said if you're only using one card, the one you chose is overkill.
I'd go with onboard sound for now, see how you like it, and then if you feel it's not enough you can always upgrade later. For gaming if you ARE going to...
I'm buying an OEM optical drive with DVD-RW/CD-RW capabilities and was looking for some recommendations on software for it. I'd like to just be able to burn DVDs and CDs from my computer, nothing too fancy. Is there a solid freeware program I can get that won't bog down my system or come...
This may sound really random but you said the problem started when you first installed Warhead? Out of those games, I believe that's the only one that comes with that SecuRom crap that I've been hearing SO much about. It's causing problems with a lot of people's system, specifically the CD/DVD...
Thanks TheStu, that was exactly what I wanted to know. I'm getting Vista64 so I'll use your advice. I really appreciate it!
Thanks for the concern Marinski. I know how to download drivers, I just couldn't figure out which ones I needed. I know that I'll have drivers for everything between the...
Thanks for all your input guys. I ended up going with Nod32 after reading a few reviews and getting a recommendation from someone whose opinion I value greatly.
I'll let you all know how it turns out, should have my parts in by Monday! Wheee!
I'm trying to put all my drivers and stuff on a CD now so that when I assemble my build I can just load them all from the CD rather and running around gathering them post-build. I can't figure out what I want from Intel for my chipset. There are a lot of choices. Can anyone point me to the files...
The small price differences probably aren't worth "risking" going through a less reliable or reputable dealer. But Newegg routinely does not have the lowest price on cases, so for that particular part shopping elsewhere is usually a good idea.
I thought I was doing it right. Thanks for the reassurance. Placed my order this morning... expect to see me asking for help in the General hardware section when I get stuck somewhere! lol
First build... scary!
I'm about to build my first PC. I'll be using it primarily for gaming purposes. I don't know how to overclock but I'll probably play around with the E8400 using the guide in the CPU forum on here. I'll probably end up getting a quad core, maybe a Q9560 or something similar in 12-18 months...
Your build is looking very similar to the one I'm planning on ordering tonight or tomorrow. I'm also juggling between a Q6600 or an E8400 now and upgrading to a C2Q in a year.
I've never overclocked before, so while I feel like taking a Q6600 and OCing it might be my best bet I might end up...
Yep, I'm getting the EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 55nm Superclocked.
Good idea Azn. Once again I'm too scared to overclock, lol. I thought it was going to be easy until I read a guide on it and it seems extremely complicated. I think I'm just going to get the E8400 and then upgrade to a quad-core in...
See from what I heard Norton is NOT very lean on resources, which is why I was looking elsewhere. I've always used Norton in the past, but that's because I've always bought pre-built PCs that came with it. Since I'm building for the first time I'd like to try something new.
Thanks for the...
I'm looking for a good anti-virus program that does a good job catching both viruses and malware, but isn't a huge resource hog that's going to slow down the PC I'm building. So far BitDefender and Nod32 have been recommended. Anyone have experience with these two that can give me a review of...
I think I'm going to go with this EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 55nm Superclocked for $270. That seem like a good deal?
A few people have been telling me I should get a quad core instead of a dual core. I know this isn't the right section for this question, but do you think going with a Q6600 will...
WHERE?? The link he posted has no option to "Add to Cart" only to "Auto-Notify." Can you send me a link to a newegg 260 55nm that I can add to my cart?
Azn I don't want to spend more money on quad-core. About the sound card, if I'm getting these cheapo Creative 5.1 Speakers will on-board...
Keys the one you linked isn't 55nm. It's just superclocked. And Wreckage, I said the 55nm is out of stock and you sent me a link to the same out-of-stock 55nm I've been looking at lol. I did auto-notify so if it becomes available by like, tomorrow, I might get it (I want to place my order...
Well how around the corner is it? I wanted to place my order in the next 3-4 days.
Also, the 4870x2 or 295 seem nice but they're also around $500. The 4870 1GB is $230 and the GTX 280 is about $345. So while obviously I'd rather have a 4870x2 I'm not sure I can justify the price, I feel like...
Wow thanks DSF that video will help a lot.
Zerocool I had no idea that mobo I picked supported crossfire. The whole motherboard selection is so overwhelming, it's the most confusing/complicated part for sure! Thanks a lot, I think I'll go with the one you recommended instead. Thanks guys!
This is my first build and I've been doing a lot of research and think I've got it pretty much finalized. I'd like to place my order in the next few days.

Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

You could get two of these Gigabyte HD 4870s for $165 each after mail-in rebate (and you'd get two free gaming mice... mouses?) and crossfire those for $330, as opposed to one 4870x2 for ~$500.
I'm trying to figure out what card setup I'm going with so I can order my new build. I'm extremely...
I've got my first build pretty much planned out, except for a small debate I'm having on a couple graphics cards. The Mobo discussion is a bit overwhelming though, they all seem so picky about what they're compatible with. Here's my setup:
Cooler Master RC 690 Case
Corsair 650TX 650w PSU...
Thanks for the quick reply! And very sorry admins, I just noticed this section is called "CPU and Overclocking," not "GPU and Overclocking. Sorry for posting in the wrong forum!
Thanks again though
