about CS servers: i have some friends on campus that run CS servers on Linux... one person has a dual p3 550 with 512 megs of ram, and it STILL gets laggy when we get up to 24 people... CS servers take some serious hardware. 'course, for an FTP server and a web server, those hardware specs...

17" Monitor Reccomendations...KDS vs. Samsung

best choice for a 17" flat monitor is not either of these manufacturers. If you want a kickass monitor, you have no choice but to go iiYama. I got one of the visionmaster pro 410s for 300$ refurb with a 2 year warranty. It will do 1600x1200 at 75hz. Nuff said. -inq

Help! Should bigger of 2 case fans be the exhaust or intake?

well, im sure as youall know, the only reason to even bother taking the PSAT is to get the hookup for scholarships... when I took it (I am a college sophomore now) the score to beat was a 206, which came out to be something like 93 - 96%. I made something like a 212, I don't exactly remember...

everything really just depends on what the server is going to be doing. If you are just going to be sharing files and printers, I would install debain before I would install NT. Especially on an old machine like that, the reduced overhead would give you a significant gain in performance...

methinks that you will have to reinstall the OS for it to pick up the second CPU. There are probably some accessory .DLLs that have to be installed on a 2 CPU machine that don't have to be there on a 1 CPU machine that were not copied when you installed on a one processor machine. Of course...

you will want mushkin or crucial memory, as someone i think has already said. Now, I would buy it in two 128mb sticks instead of one 256, because I think with that mobo you can interleave the memory and get better performance. you could not do that with just one stick. for the kind of gaming...
