How Often Do I Replace Thermal Compound?

If you applied the compound properly it should last you many years. Any reason why you think you need to replace it?

Weird temperature readings

Just cause a temperature of 17 degrees is reported doesn't mean the higher temperatures aren't accurate, when the CPU is being used.

I don't know why you guys get different results with different programs. I've tried everest, speedfan, coretemp, crystalCPUID, and they all reported the exact same temperature, for all the sensors (core, gpu, hdd, system) I did update the bios, but it didn't help. I guess I'll check with...

Thanks for the replies. I did try all of the softwares that you mentioned in your post BonzaiDuck, and they all report the exact same core temp, which I believe is also the same as the one in the bios. Stuck sensor is a possibility, however I searched the net and didn't come up with much info...

I just left my computer idling for around 30 minutes, and the graph in speedfan shows that the core temp stayed at room temperature. Normal, right? The weird thing is I left my computer idling yesterday as well, and it peported temperatures as low as 17 celcius. Same results with coretemp. Any...

Better for gaming?

Even if games one day become CPU bound again, it won't matter which of the two CPUs the OP gets, they will both be kind of slow by that time. Regardless, the 940 is better choice because of the two extra cores, which might become useful in the future when more programs take advantage of them.

Torn between platforms

Are you planning on overclocking? If so a low end AMD board might not be the best solution and you'd be better off with the Q6600. Actually you'd probably be better off with that choice anyways, as there's no big difference between the 2 CPUs, and if there is a difference it's definitely not in...

AMD Price cut

Just wondering, is there anything legally preventing Intel from constantly replying to AMD's price cuts? Cause I'm pretty sure Intel can afford to keep dropping, but not AMD.
