I see that the X5650 is a 95W TDP part vs. 60W on the L5639. Since both are less than my 130W 920, either should be an efficiency improvement.
Are there some "known good" settings / voltages for a decent OC on the X5650?
Thanks again.

I have an Asus P6T board running the i7-920 at 166x21 (3.48GHz) w/Turbo and HT on. It looks like I can still get an L5639 for pretty cheap on the eBays.
Is this a worthwhile upgrade for the 2 additional cores?
How hard will it be to match (or exceed) my current clock speed?
Thanks...
Hey guys, I know that there are lots of these "What router should I get questions" but I haven't seen one particular to upgrading from the old GamerLounge series that is newer than 2010. (Guess that is a sign it is time for an upgrade)
More and more of my devices are 802.11n capable and I am...
Thanks everyone for the help.
I am going to ditch the 80s and use the 300 for storage until I can afford a couple of new Green drives. (hopefully not too long)
MD
If it is purely for storage, is there really strong argument for the Black series as opposed to the Green or Blue?
If I am removing the old 80s for power / heat reduction as suggested above it seems the Green may be a better choice.
MD
I have been considering that as well. I kind of like the idea of having dedicated (isolated) uTorrent / Downloads / ISO host locations though.
Maybe a new spinning drive of >300GB for storage and move the 300 to that role...I'll keep thinking about this. It looks like the Caviar Green...
I only have Office 2010 x64 and a few small Video-editing programs. I also have no more than 2 games installed at one time. I have been managing 160GB of C: drive for a very long time, so I am pretty frugal with space already.
Would their be any up/downside to using Windows to RAID the 80s...
That is kind of my thinking as well. I will be using OCZs guide for setting up Win 7, which includes the disabling and removing the Hibernation files.
Thanks,
MD
Hey all,
I ordered the 60GB OCZ Agility on BCB & Rebate and it should be here next week. I now need to figure out the best way to configure my existing drives.
My current system config:
Core i7 920 @ 3.6GHz
Asus P6T
6GB DDR3 - 1600
GeForce 8800GT 512MB (G92)
2x 80GB Seagate 7200.9...
OK, so I have an old Nforce 4 system that I am replacing the MB, CPU and RAM up to a P6T, i7 920 & OCZ DDR3-1600.
I blew my entire budget on those 3 components so no SSD for me yet. I will likely grab a Vertex or Intel drive for x-mas to coincide with Win 7 release.
That being said, I...
The transcoding piece is actually a pretty minor use of the machine and I am really thinking that 8GB of RAM would be a better choice for overall performance than an extra CPU core. Especially if I am targeting 64-bit Windows 7 as the OS.
Any opinions on the ASRock AOD790GX/128M AM2+...
My plan is to hold off on any storage purchase as the SSD market shakes out over the next 1-2 years and upgrade that portion then. Granted if a drive fails (knock on wood) I would be forced to jump a little earlier.
Thanks for the suggestions.
On the Q8300 vs. X3 720, I think I will fall...
My current RAM is Original DDR-500 so I can't use it in anything current.
Let me run $ numbers on the Q8300, I really want to increase core count and overall performance since I already have a Dual Core. I know, kinda silly but important to me...
Thanks for the feedback.

So I am thinking a complete system that looks like this:
AMD Phenom II X3 720BE - Clock unlocked seems like it would be worth the extra $40
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4 790X board
4x2GB G.SKILL DDR-2 1066 5-5-5-15 RAM
eVGA OCed 8800GT 512MB
Ultra Products X2 550 Watt PSU
Antec 900 Case
2x...
OK, so I am thinking I might go with the AMD Phenom II X3 720BE, seems like a great price point for the performance and would allow me to OC some.
I haven't built a system for a while so I am a little behind the times. What would be considered the leading or "best" chipset for PhII?
AMD...
Monitor is only 17" LCD 4:3 and not in the upgrade plans right now. 1280x1024 res.
I currently wonder how much my other components are holding back my video card.

Current system in need of upgrade:
S939 Athlon X2 4200+ OC to 2.5GHz
2GB of DDR running at 500MHz
DFI LP SLI-DR
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
See below for remaining parts that I plan to re-use
I do not need any peripherals.
1. I mainly use this system to play games and do some video...
