Oh there was an infection, but it wasn't causing the taskbar issue/drag-and-drop/windows issues. IT WAS THE MOUSE. Of all the things. Mouse3, the Scroll BUTTON (not the scrolling, but the button itself) was permenentlt depressed, and that caused all sorts of focus and drag-and-drop problems...

It's not just the taskbar, its games that draw a overlay or HUD too, they lock up until you CTRL-Alt_Del and cancel. And MPC can't hide the mouse icon during fullscreen. And worst of all, drag-and-drop doesn't work at all, the dropped items just disappear. Overlay problem? I've used...

I've also noticed the issue prevents my mouse icon from hiding in MPC when watching a video fullscreen. Some kind of layering issue with drawing windows in general, I'm guessing. Started yesterday morning.

chkdsk did not find any problems sfc /scannow did not find any problems MBAM found 6 items and removed them all, but the problem persists. Thanks for it though. Still working on a Repair disk.

The Repair option comes after the Upgrade option, but when I click Upgrade it runs a compatibility check and reports: Your current version of Windows is more recent than the version you are trying to upgrade to. Windows cannot complete the upgrade. I'll see if I have another OEM disk around...

Weird lines on MSO programs after waking from sleep - AMD 7970HD

Disable monitor sleep mode for now. AMD 7970 drivers have problems recovering from sleep mode. Mine doesn't recover at all, hard reboot required.

Replacing a DGL-4300

As far as I know, NONE of the DLG series were affected by the lockup issue. I have a DLG-4500 and haven't had any problems with it at all. I run xp using bittorrent, many games, antivirus and an iPhone.....everything works like a charm, basically a fire-and-forget router.
