Built new computer - CPU fan very loud

Hmm, didn't think that would have much of an effect since it only moves air AROUND the case, but okay. Yep, they're fine; thanks for asking. Whoops, didn't think that would have an effect on my cooling! Thanks! Yeah, hm... What's a good replacement heatsink for a quad core AM3 socket? I...

Built new computer - CPU fan very loud

The highest I could get the fan and CPU core temperature with 4 instances of CPU burn in running is 6000 RPM and 54 degrees (with GPU idle). How hot can a Phenom II get and still be safe (and last a long time), if I start messing with fan speeds? The case is on a wooden floor. I'm pretty...

Built new computer - CPU fan very loud

Well, if the CPU fan speed was forcefully lowered, the CPU would get hot, right? I mean, it crossed the 60's under load when the case was closed WHILE being very loud. So it might be more of a ventilation problem.... I'm actually trying to decide how to make the fans run at about 3k RPM...

How much weight can a wooden computer desk hold?

I climbed on my desk without taking my monitor off. Usually the table is very sturdy and doesn't move when you just push it without climbing on it, but when I was on it, it shook just a tiny bit when I rocked it. However, it didn't appear to bend or strain under the weight, so I guess it'll...

    i7 920 build----review? Thanks you guys

How to pack a computer for moving?

You could take it apart and pack everything in foam/bubble wrap separately. But make sure to take lots of pictures so you know how to assemble it properly. Or, don't pack the computer in with everything else, and just put it in the back seat of your car (you'll have to move your car too, right?)

How much weight can a wooden computer desk hold?

Sorry I like my CRT just fine. :P It's good flat CRT that can do 1400x1050@100hz, not one of those cheap ones (though I still bought it for $50 on ebay). Yes, I'll do this instead if I decide that putting everything on the desk is dangerous. :) Thanks for the advice. On close inspection...

How much weight can a wooden computer desk hold?

Hi everyone, I have a 71 lb computer monitor and a laptop on this computer desk right here. I just ordered some parts from Newegg to build a new computer with, including 37 lb for the case alone. I'm wondering if the desk will be able to hold up the computer AND the monitor, since that will be...

Windows 7: Home Premium or Professional?

Even if you could, that would cost significantly more than just getting Pro in the first place, considering you'd have to pay for both upgrade packages. Plus, you can get Pro at a discount right now.

    PC Building Advice Needed!

If you like multi tasking, 4 cores are better than 2. Also, some games are more optimized for several cores than others (usually there is a negative correlation between the age of the game and how many cores it uses).

Which one? If it's IDE, make sure your motherboard supports IDE. Some newer ones don't.

what is best graphics card I can use

It's probably that the CPU can't handle that much overvolting. You can only overvolt CPUs so far before they become unstable, no matter how much of a power supply you have. If it's supposed to overvolt that far, then it could be slightly defective. =P Really, the way I see it, all CPUs have...

Windows 7: Home Premium or Professional?

If that fails, there's still a $200 difference between preordering Pro upgrade and buying Pro full (and $150 for Home Premium), for which you'll probably be able to find a cheap copy of Vista Home Basic on E-Bay to install over. So pre-ordering the upgrade saves you money over the full...

Is the maximum memory of a motherboard just for RAM, or video card memory too?

This mobo looks really nice with Crossfire, especially for its price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813186168 But if the 8 GB memory limit includes memory from video cards, then the maximum RAM limit is easily under 6 GB, since 1 GB cards are pretty common now. Which would...

Heh, I made the same mistake! If you look carefully, that mobo is incompatible with DDR3 - you need DDR2 or a different mobo.

I have a parts kit picked out, but I want some input from The Collective!

Hmm, okay, thanks. I wonder if I saw what you wanted me to see, so I'll write it here: For Southbridge: SB710 only seems to be missing RAID 5 as opposed to SB750. Raid 5 means I'm going to RAID at least 3 HDs. Now don't get me wrong, this is pretty cool, but pointless for someone whose...

    What's your favorite free FPS?

The demo version of Unreal Tournament 2004 has some decent maps. Last I checked (though it was a while ago), there were still servers for it up, and people playing. You could do that, or play with bots offline, which is honestly pretty fun too. And being a demo version, it's free of course.

    CS: Source

Thanks, I fixed the RAM to the G.SKILL 800! What's wrong with a big case? I know I picked the biggest one out there, but is something going to not work right because it's too big? I mean, I have a huge 71 lb CRT monitor, so I'm used to big stuff. Everything else in this build is going to...

    Build Advice please!

XP 64 bit is unreliable, and XP 32 bit will limit you to about 2.5-3GB RAM due to the size of your graphics card. I'd recommend going with Windows 7 RC 64 bit for now, and Windows 7 64 bit later.

    Pixel Doubling on an LCD?

Sorry, I tried searching a lot and couldn't find any conclusive answers to my question through Google or forum search. So you're saying it depends on the monitor and cable type used, and doesn't depend on OS and graphics card, right? How do I find out which monitors support 1/2 resolution as...
