What ports are not UDP?

UDP ports and TCP ports are two separate things. You can have a TCP port 21 (ftp), as well as a UDP port 21. One is a connection oriented protocol, one isn't. Jordan

How to decipher values on SMT resistors?

SMT components rarely have the value enscribed on them. The best you can hope for, and this may even be reaching, is to have some sort of manufacturer part number on them, then go to their website, and hopefully find the specs. Good Luck! Jordan

What time do you FREAKS go to sleep? And have to wake up?

Bed at usually 12-12:30 AM Wakeup at 6AM for 8AM classes. Sleep comes sparsely to us students.

I second atom's recommendation. A second gen late 80's RX7 is one hell of a car. Definately something to consider. Second choice would be a early 90's prelude. Jordan

Got Mosix working!

Yes, Linux. Using RH6.2 on all machines. Machine 1 is a Celeron 366 @ 550 Machine 2 is a P200, and 3 is a P133. Once I iron out the few bugs that exist, I'm going to move the rest of my cluster over. All three machines are running on a 100Mbit switched backbone, but bandwidth isn't an issue...

Got Mosix working!

One word says it all - Woooooooooohooooooooooooooo! Got Mosix working on my cluster of 3 PC's today. Took a few days to set everything up, but it's worth it. All three PC's are acting as one (at least RC5 sees it that way). I'm on my way to crackrack heaven now. :) -JcW

Linux networking question ...

As long as you're using 2.2+ kernels, stick with portfw. They both perform more or less the same function, but there have been some issues with autofw relating to kernel stability. Try http://ipmasq.cjb.net for more information. Enjoy Jordan

Help, i think i screwed up my linux system!

Your path setting in /root/.bash_profile (if using default bash shell) needs to be set. All your programs are still there, the system just doesn't know where to find them. You could use /usr/sbin/useradd, etc, for the time being. Jordan

Using a PVM

Not possible. PVM requires custom code to be used, and as the source code for RC5 isn't publicly available, it simply isn't possible. On the other hand, using a kernel utility such as Mosix might work, there's been discussion on the board previously regarding it. Good Luck! Jordan

22 gauge is very fine wire, I really don't think you'd measure it in meters. (gauge is the width of the wire BTW). JcW

ipchains question

I have a linuxbox acting as a NAT/gateway for several computers behind it. I'm looking at creating a 'DMZ' zone for one of the internal computers, somewhat like Linksys has with their routers, using IPChains. Does anyone have a ruleset to do this, or know of any way? Thanks, Jordan

Need POP3 server software for *nix
